Another chipper accident

/ Another chipper accident #11
I can live the rest of my life without ever owning a chipper. Ex FIL had one... and half a hand.
Sometimes the risk outweighs the rewards. I'm going to pass on this attachment
Grandpa at 85 lost 3 fingers to wood splitter…

Lots out there can get you and it only takes a split second.

Worked with a guy running same punch press I spent hundreds of hours running and he lost most of his left hand running a job I did many times…

As we age it's important to acknowledge the loss of agility and ability necessary to safely do some dangerous jobs. You will live longer if you are honest with yourself ;)

As I've aged out here - I've made sure that the number of jobs that must be done have also reduced. The most dangerous job - firewood - was eliminated thirty years ago. My big 'ol ancient Ponderosa pines are just too much to handle. Besides a 32" to 38" round is just too much to split. Even with the best of the hydraulic splitters. And it takes a gorilla just to roll the rounds.

/ Another chipper accident #20
My neighbor who used to run a tree service told me about this accident this morning. The way he told it, a climber was repelling out of the tree and ended up in the chipper. Until I saw the video of the rope in chipper simulation I didn't understand how repelling out of a tree could put someone into a chipper, and I spent a couple seasons repelling out of trees. But not with a running chipper nearby.
