Made the mistake of buying some HF hose on sale - busted on second use - yea, I got what I deserved.

Looking for recommendations for 3/8 flexible hose, ideally something made in good ol USA. Even better would be experience with retractable hose reels. TIA.

Bring it back and get the GoodYear one
Or go to Samsclub and get the yellow GoodYear one with brass ends

Just how flexible does it need to be? I've no experience with the hose reels, but a little over 2 years ago, I found these PVC hoses at Northern Tool, and quite frankly, I'd never heard of a PVC hose and bought 2 of them. Only time will tell how good they are, but they're over 2 years old now and I'm certainly happy with them so far.

I bought a campbell hausfeld air compressor from HF and have had no problems. It is the extreme duty 60gallon 7 hp. Going on four years with no problems. The air hoses are flexible rubber type. These are the same hoses for about 20 years. I would look at Lowes for a new rubber hoses. Mine are run through regulator and water separator then to my tools. I have impact sockets from HF and no problems. I don't think I would by any power tools that are HF tools. Like chicago electric and other names that I'm not familiar with.

I got a cambell hausfield hose from walmart. Blue and around $15 when I got it. I have been using it on a air T-post driver dragging it thru the dirt, sticks, barb wire, ect. Have been using it for 2 years. So far it is holding up great.

Air hoses are wear items. BTW - so are electrical extension cords. One of the reasons I prefer air hoses over electrical cords is that when they burst you get a benign air leak vice a spark (or worse).

Abrasion, UV, and ozone is what kills air hoses. Depending on how you use them (left in the sun and weather, driving over them on a stone driveway, etc.) they can last as little as a couple of years or as many as ten or twenty. In my opinion - I like rubber hoses because they tend to be easier to unwind/rewind even though they may not be as durable in other respects. In the end - its best to buy what fits in your budget and in a couple or three years adjust your next purchase accordingly (guaranteed - you will be making a second one).

My two cents.

Reelcraft and Coxreels make nice looking reels, and I wish I could afford one. I do like Coilhose Pneumatics products that MSC Direct markets. They are pricier than Horrible Fright; but I've been happy with the air guns and yellow coiled flex hoses made by them.
