8N Draft Position control

I am 100% positive that this has been discused.
Thank you all for your valuble time.
I have a 1939 8N and it will not hold position or draft.
If i have an attachment on the 8N and is in the up position, when 8N is shut off the implament will drop/bleed off.
Replaced relife valve.
Is pump bad?
Not sure what it is call the spring loaded center mount tip ans tilt screw bar.
I know it has a recamended preload, could that be whats wrong?

Its probably the piston seal or bore. The original ones were just a metal ring similar to an engine piston ring.

Upgrade kits actually use an o-ring. ANd they do hold well if the bore isnt scored.

The cylinder is on the underside of the top cover that the seat is bolted to.

Also, if you have a 1939, it is NOT an 8n

My 8N is an odd duck engine says 8N on it but the top cover is a TO20.
I replaced the cylinder and piston under the top cover with the new o-ring style.
I have researched and they did manufacture TO/8N hybrid when parts got hard to get.

8n didn't come around til 1948. So if it is indeed a Ferguson/N-series hybrid.....it would be a 9n variant if your date is correct.

Along the way, someone may have replaced the engine.

Or it could just be a Frankenstein tractor all together. Could have originally been a 9n that someone busted the rear axle and dropped a to-20 axle on.....then later on blew an engine and swapped with a 8n engine.

But regarding the issue at hand, when did you replace the piston and o-ring?

There eis no relief valve in play nor the pump when it's off. Could be something in the valve

Replaced everythin under top cover approx two years ago.
