Getting old. Sold the ranch. Sold the tractors. Moved back to the city.
Took a test drive in one of these yesterday. Need a big, heavy tractor to do the tough parts of haymaking (plowing, discing, baling).

Liked the feel of the 5525. It's loud, but I guess that comes with the hp. Looks nice and fearsome.

Forgot to ask if there are any Chinese-made parts on the 5525. Anyone know the answer?

Also, where is the 5525 final assembly location?

I couldn't say for sure about every little part, but I would rather doubt any of it is made in China. You have looked into a very tried and true tractor, and it will give you many years of service, as much of it's design has been tried and true for decades. Good luck!

Funny this thread popped up today... I'm going to be signing paperwork on a 5525 w/FEL this week. I looked hard at the 3525, and still have a slight chance of changing my mind back to it at signing, but I think the extra hp (and especially the PTO hp) of the 5525 will do me well.

Congrats. I'll probably do the same next week.

The 5525 is for sure an Indian built machine. Final assembly depends on the area of the USA where the dealers is located. It could be "stood" (final assembly) in Georgia, Texas or at our place in Red Bluff, CA. If you drove one at out lot (I'm at the Tulare show right now) it would have been assembled in Texas as we have not received direct from India shipments of that model yet. We do a pre-delivery on all units before they get delivered, just like most all dealers I am sure, so everything gets checked twice to make sure a loader bolt isn't loose, or a tire low on air, or whatever.

It's a lot of machine for the money!

Thanks, Dave. Have fun at the ag show.

I have been looking for six months off and on and have also settled on the 5525 for a hay operation. Plan to buy in the next few weeks. Right now I am just mowing but I need to stop borrowing my neighbor's tractor to load round bales, and I also hope to do the baling myself at some point. Figure the 5525 will handle a square baler at least. Is 5525 too much tractor for only 25 acres? The 3525 would fit all of my needs except the baling maybe.

You could get by fine with the 3525 for only 25 acres and I believe the 3525 would handle the baler. We used to use the smaller tractors on the baler when there were problems with the bigger tractors. We just didn't move quite as fast. On the other hand, I think you will really appreciate the extra weight and HP on the 5525 and it would be far more expensive to up grade later rather than make the move now. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

OK, what's going on here?

I'm doing my due diligence prior to dropping bucks on a 5525 by reading the last 24 months worth of threads in this forum.

So I'm running into stuff like KSB sensor/timer problems, mis-timed injectors, bad OSB sensors.

Not what I expected to hear about an ISO 9000/Deming Quality Award company like Mahindra.

I'm coming from the Kubota experience. Bought a little 21-hp B7510HST new in May 05 and haven't had any problem with it. Do the scheduled maintenance and it runs fine.

Can someone 'splain what KSB stands for and why Mahindra needs this gizmo on their engine?

And I assume "OSB" in this context means something other than "oriented strand board". What's the problem here?

flusher,
The KSB timer advances the fuel injector pump timing during cold weather. The problem seems to be the KSB timer. This is probably a third party part that seems to be going bad. Not a big deal, If your tractor is new it should be covered under the warranty if it goes bad. I haven't heard of a bad one on a 5525 to date. As far as the injector pump timing goes that is a factory/dealer issue. The timing is set at the factory, then rechecked and adjusted at the dealer prior to delivery to you. That is as long as you have a dealer that does what he is suppose to. Not sure what the OSB is.
Don't let these little problems sway your decision. Mahindra makes a great product. Small problems like these are common with any brand name. The key factor is how your dealer handles the issues. One more reason to buy from a reputable dealer.

Thanks for the info.

I'm not overly concerned about getting these pesky problems fixed. Simple parts swapout seems to do the trick. I'm pretty good with a wrench since I've recently refurbished an old 1964 MF-135 diesel. So short of splitting the tractor, I think I can do all the service/repair on a relatively simple tractor like the 5525 myself (after the 36 month warrently expires).

And my confidence in Mahindra's overall quality remains high.

I'm trying to understand why these nuisance problems happen to Mahindra since they advertise the awards they've received for quality. I'm beginning to think that these awards were given for the excellence of Mahindra's manufacturing processes and product and not for the resulting tractor that gets shipped to the US in a crate, is assembled in Georgia, Texas or whereever, then is shipped to the dealer and which, finally, is prepped by the dealer's service technicians.

And I don't think it's wise that Mahindra relies on its dealers as the final link in its quality control chain. The few bad apples within their dealer population are causing Mahindra to take the heat for deficient quality control.

The KSB issue on new Mahindra units is virtually non-existant, most of the KSB issues you see on here are on units that are 2 years or older. The timing issues aren't as big as you'd think either, over the past year we've had to slightly adjust the timing on two units we've received.

Correct me if I'm wrong please. Regarding the OSB, while I don't wknow what the letters stand for, I belie it functions as a fuel cut-off solenoid. In reading my manual it states that if the tractor is not used for a long period prior to starting, disconnect the switch and crank for a few seconds to get the oil pressure up. In looking at the injector pump there are only two units with an electrical connector. One on its side and one in the back end of it. I think the one in the back is the OSB as when unplugged the tractor wont start and as soon as I plug it back, it fires up. I leave this unplugged and have a phony connector on it as a security measure in case some dirt bag decides to relieve me of my new tractor. Probably wont stop a determined thief, but make him work for it.

We haven't replaced a KSB unit for over a year, and haven't had any timing issues. We know they exists, but we haven't run into it at all.

Raftergtex,
About 4 years ago, I was looking for 25-35 hp tractor. I actually bought a 54 hp Ford 3055. It changed my mind.:) I was lucky to have bought bigger than I thought I needed. Buying bigger is always better unless you need to squeeze between someone's septic tank and rose bushes. That doesn't seem like your situation.
You will enjoy the 5525. I know I did when I bought bigger.:D I currently have a 6520 4WD and absolutely love it.

Thank you. Haven't quite made it to the dealer yet but I did sell my old 9N so I am ready with a nice downpayment. :) I think I have decided on the 5525 rather than the 3525 since who knows what I will be doing in the future and that is quite a PTO hp boost from 27 to 44 for just a little more. My biggest problem is I have two places about 20 miles apart and I am going to have to transport the heavy thing. Guess I will be looking at a new truck and trailer also, or I might be one of those guys heading slowly down the road and blocking traffic.

Raftergtex,
I had my 2WD Ford 3055 when I bought my first trailer. The Ford only weighed around 5000 pounds. But I bought a 14,000 pound 20 foot gooseneck. I am glad I bougth the biggest my truck would haul, becuse my 6520 4WD with FEL, and Bradco 511 backhoe weighs 11,700 pounds. You will always haul more than just the 5525. Those impliment weights add up.

My neighbor just had a 5525 delievered to his place yesterday. Its a pretty massive beast. He came down to my place with it and was mention that it is lot larger than he thought it was going to be. I have a Kubota L4400 4x4 but wieght wise his is about 1500lbs more than mine. Oh well you just cant keep up with the nieghbors.
