JD 6420
Hello everyone...first post on this forum.

I have a JD 6420 that I am wanting to build some horizontal sway stabilizer turnbuckles for. I have a 200 gallon sprayer that I use in mountainous terrain, and the side to side movement on uneven ground paired with the sloshing liquid is a little more than I care for.

I was wondering if anyone made something like this for tractor of similar size. Where and how did you attach the turnbuckles? Any pictures would help to give me some ideas.

I have made some for a 5000 ford. Don't know how your JD is set up, but I can tell you this. The front anchor pin must be in line with the front pins of the lower link arms. If not, it well not go all the way and down, it well lock up maybe bend or braking something. If it's just a little off you can't pull you pins out to adjust when all the way up or down.

Thanks for the input. I thought of that last night as I was brain storming some ideas. I will have to come up with some sort of extensions for the front anchor pins.

LeeJohn, do you have any pictures of the ones you made for the 5000?

The ones I have now are not good enough to see much. He lives up the road and if I can today I'll go up and get some.

Here you go (TheHardWay)

I guess you know that the 5000 ford is Cat 2. Also you can turn them end for end if you need to.

Thank you for the pictures...looks good. I went to JD today to see about ordering some of the stabilizers like their smaller mid-sized tractors have and fab up some brackets to adapt them. Or course since they have the green paint on them, they would be around $400 for a set.
I bought some upper links and pins and going to see if I can come up with something that will work.

$400.00 !!!! My god are they gold. Post a picture of the back of your tractor on each side of the lower link. Looking from the back to the front.

My local supplier has kits that include the brackets, as JDs doesn't seem to come with anchors for stabilizers as standard.

I don't think you will want to ship them from Sweden, but there should be similar kits available?

Maybe the pictures will help:

For arms with quick-mount hooks
OE Parts

For arms with fixed balls
OE Parts

Both are around $ 325 US.

those are exactly what I need. I will continue my search for something like that and a little bit closer to home. Thanks!

Well I came up with something that seems like it will work. It didn't require much work. Just had to make a square washer with the plasma, cut some pins down, and some grinding for clearance. The tractor had a 3/4" hole on the bottom of the axle housing just slightly forward and higher of where the 3pt arms pivot from. I took some measurements throughout the full range of motion of the arms from the lowest to highest positions and didn't deviate more than a 1/2". So I just got some upper links and pins for the stabilizers. I attached them to the axle housing (At 1.5" thick, I think it is heavy enough to do this job. It isn't weight bearing) And then got a longer pin for where the hydraulic lift arms attach to the 3pt arms, and attached there. I haven't put the sprayer or rotary cutter on yet, but looks like it will work. When they are tightened down, I can raise and lower arms all the way without any binding.
Here are some pics if anyone wants to use this idea. Only cost me $70 and about an hour of my time...a little better than the $400 JD option that I would have had to build custom brackets!

I think when you put an implement on the 3PH it will then bind because the arms won't be able to spread. A way to solve that problem would be to put a sway bar on only one side. when you put the implement on it will move sideways a little as you go up and down, but it won't bind.

TheHardWay sure hope it works, but from the ones I have done they had to be almost in line, other wise the pull pins would lock up. Also the 3pt was not getting the full up and down.
If this doesn't work, cut you some plates, drill to match the bolts that hold your fender onto the axle and a hole to line up with the holes in your lower link arm. The plate well end up being L shaped.
With you 3pt being cat2 i would use 1/2" stock. A good way to find where to put the hole from the lower link to where the hole goes into the bracket is. Pull lower link off buy a rod and put it into hole and long enough to go to the bracket, mark and drill.
I could not see how your fender mounts, but if the bolts do not go below your axle you can't do it that way.
