Since there seems to be a lot of 336D owners here I thought I would throw this out there. Is a 336D big enough to run a 6' brush mower? I know the recommendation is 40+ PTO HP for this size but our fileds are just that, fields. Basic brush without any saplings or large stuff. The width of a 72" mower would cover the wheel tracks perfectly and cut down on mowing time considerably. I currently run a 48" on the 23 HP Hinomoto E2302 without pulling the engine down at all.

Now is the time to buy around here but the 6' mowers are not very common. I don't want to miss one when it comes up but I also don't want to over buy and be stuck with it.

Any input is appreciated.

Do you have enough room to turn the thing around? Bigger is clumsier. If this is for the wide open spaces - if were me I would buy it, and just take narrower cuts when necessary. You don't have to take a 6 ft cut every pass.

I run a 5 foot brush hog with a 18 hp tractor, some say that it wont work, but with 40 hp, I don't see any problem.

Plenty of room to manuver. I was thinking the same thing on narrower cuts when needed if the stuff is tall.

In stock trim I believe the 336D is 27 HP at the PTO. Mine is turned up a wee bit. Tested 30 HP at the PTO. 40 is the mower manufacturers recommended PTO HP for a 72" unit.

I have two bush hogs I have used on my 336d. One is a 5 footer, the other I think is a 6 footer. I had no problems except in very thick tall grass and then it would bog down but it did that with the 5 footer also in the same stuff. Even in low gear at low speeds I had some trouble.
I had to mow high there and then make a second lower pass.

I would buy 1 if the price was right. I've run my friend's 6 footer with no problems. You may want to look a MD or a light duty 6 footer. My friend's is a HD cutter & my tractor was a little light in the front until I got the loader. 5 pto hp x 6' cutter = 30 hp

You should be fine. If you don't have weights or an FEL it might make the front wheels a little light.

I should have added I have my front end loader on all the time so I have weight up front.

Same here. Either the bucket or the pallet forks are on this tractor 95% of the time.

Id say it would run it just fine. I run a 6' tiller and a 5' mower w/o any problems I had the 5' already or I would have a 6'.
