I have just replaced the clutch pack and bearings on my 3010. I have been fighting with it all day. I have the shaft in the pto clutch but cant seem to get it to go the rest of the way. It looks lined up and all bolt holes are lined up. Ive been spinning the flywheel and pto trying to get it to go but no luck.
I do not have the best work area available. I had to do it outside. Its not exactly level ground. The front is on stands and im rolling the rear of the tractor. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you're not applying pressure by tightening clutch housing to engine bolts. Have you tried putting trans in gear & turning engine flywheel with a large screwdriver. Do you have both halves of tractor "square with each other"?

I had it within reach of the bolts and started to tighten them down. I realized this was not right and stopped. With it being in gear it will make the input shaft spin as i push the rear forward correct? Or do i want it stationary then turn the flywheel so it lines up? Im having a hard time getting it perfectly square. I think thats my problem.

Did you install any guide bolts(bolts with heads removed) to help alignment. I guess aliment bolts won't be necessary now since you have original bolts installed. Tightening bolts to pull halves together has been known to warp clutch plates rendering them inoperable.

I have rocked rear tires with trans in gear & alternately turned flywheel & rear pto shaft to align splines. Sometimes walking away(taking a break) for a few minutes helps.

No i did not use guide bolts. I am going to try again today. I am going to push it back apart and inspect everything then try again. I might try and find some bolts i can use as guides. Those are pretty big bolts. I think they are 3/4". i dont know if i could find them locally.

As TxJim said, try and be square coming together. Watch both side and top/bottom gaps, use a jack on the 1/2 you are not moving to adjust.

If you pull it apart, try and determine which shaft is not engaging and see if you can turn it, or what it engages 1/2 a spline tooth.

I have only split a 2030, multiple times, I have not used guide bolts. I usually move the front 1/2 to the rear 1/2. I chock the rear tires to keep that 1/2 from moving rearward. I block the front tires, so as not to lose any "gains" as the front goes toward the rear 1/2, kicking them tight to the front tires as I go.
I watch the side gaps and try moving the wide side as it goes back. I also monitor the top/bottom gap and play with the jack.

Never pull together with the bolts, only take up slack (finger tight).

GOOD LUCK!

Get yourself a come-along and pull it till it touches . Then turn and bump the 2 halfs till it go. Then pull a bit more till it touches. Bump it again.Do not overtightern the come-along !
Atach the come-along under the tractor from the ftontwights to the drawbar.

Well i got it back apart. Everything looks good. I found some guide bolts. Im pulling it with a come along as described. I have it nice and square riding on the guide bolts. Its through the pto disc but cant get it any further. Im guessing i need it to line up with the clutch disc. Im taking a break and will get back at it later. Thanks for all the help so far.

Did you align traction disk utilizing an alignment tool while securing pressure plate to flywheel?

I still cant get it to go in all the way. When i took it back apart it looked like the shaft was hitting low. I used the alignment tool when i put the clutch pack an disc back on. I had it pretty straight and square today especially with the guide bolts. Not sure whats going on.

If that's the case, rotating the engine might get it to go If the clutch disk was high, 1/2 a turn might lower it enough to engage the shaft.

I've been turning the flywheel if that's what you mean.

Yes, that's what I meant.

My 2030 only has one clutch disk (PTO clutch is internal) and I have just eyeballed to center. It (on my 2030) is the inner shaft that engages it, and it has some play at the end.

I finally got it together after wrestling with it for hours. I guess it just needed to be lined up exactly right. Thank you for your suggestions and help. I greatly appreciate it.

It's good feeling when a split tractor comes back together! Especially when it takes a long time.

Oh yeah awesome feeling. Works great. I cried a little when it went together.
