Why are you guys using chains instead of cable chokers?

For my part; I use both. When I have a steady length requirement, I go with cables, when I need different attachment lengths, I go with chain. Taking into consideration that I'm graduating from an ATV and arch (with 0-10" of lift) to a tractor with a 3 point with much-more height capability.

Not a 3 point log skidder, but I thought I would show another way to do it, with the stump bucket.


After I drag the big ones out of the woods, I grapple them to the burn pile.

The V417 is 6' wide, 6.5' high and 13' long. Tire size is 14x17.5. Top speed is 15.5 mph, drawbar pull is 7,000 pounds and it will lift over 5,000 pounds. With 4 wheel steer it works good in the woods.

PhysAssist, I noticed you wear leather gloves and was complaining about using cable as the barbs go right through them. Weat heavy cotton gloves, they are much better about stopping the strands from getting to you. Here in the Northwest we use a brand called White Ox. Pretty much standard wear for loggers.

You could try welding the frayed ends of the wire together.

No it doesn't have a winch. It does have counter weights on the back side of the plate.

Thanks for the advice, as I would never have thought that cotton would out perform leather in puncture resistqnce.
