2166 alternative drive fluid

What is everyone's thoughts on using something other than Cub Cadet brand drive fluid in a 2166 transmission. The Cub Cadet brand is extremely expensive compared to other oils. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

There is alot of threads on this.Just look at some old theads i hope that helps.IMO i would get the cub oil.It may cost more but why take a chance,it's not like you have to change it often.

Lots of debates on this. Shell Rotella-T 15w-40 works flawlessly in the transaxle on my 2005 model year 2544. Mine specs Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus. FWIW, I would not hesitate to use ANY high quality heavy-duty engine oil, preferably synthetic/semi-synth, in the 40-50wt range.

Joe where did you get the specs for the CC drive fluid. I, and my dealer, would like to know. He said MTD wouldn't tell him.

Moe, I called Hydro-Gear directly and spoke with one of their engineers about the oil. He faxed me the data sheet. The oil is made by Shell and is called Shell TTF-SB. Per specs, it's not a very impressive oil. Just a run of the mill synth blend heavy-duty engine oil. I've got the data sheet posted here on other threads. So you don't have to poke through a pile of threads, here it is:

Kub I have searched the internet and can't come up with a source for that fluid. Have you purchased any and if so where did you get it??
