2019 ford ranger review....

Hoping to keep this thread on the new ford ranger, we just returned from trip while towing our camper. Its largely a square box that's taller and a bit wider than the truck. I'll get gas in it on Sunday and tell you how it did towing it at 60 and 70mph. Some driving was without the trailer but the dash computer says the mileage at 14.9. This is darn good in our book.

Aside from the mileage, how well did it handle pulling the trailer?

We are loving its ability to tow. Disregarding all the extra HP it has compared to the Taco, it seems to handle the trailers weight better. While towing, we still use the lane assist baloney and do like it for that. We are liking this silly truck more and more with each mile. HP wise, we can go down the road at 70mph, go up a hill and still pass slower traffic. Its handling without towing, we like it better than the taco but its ride is a bit more harsh on our rough roads. Hope that helps.

That's good to know, thanks. I hadn't seen very good reviews on the mileage until you starting posting about yours. My '04 is going to be a pile of rust by the end of winter and I may buy something new in anticipation of retirement in a few years. I may have to go take one for a test drive.

You do know the new ranger is much larger than your 04 is? Its pretty much the size our 1987, 150 was we sold 2 years ago. Please do test drive one and post your thoughts here. Folks appreciate more opinions to read, or at least I do.

That's good to know. This is my third Ranger, yet it's the first vehicle I've ever driven which I wished had a tilt wheel for entering and exiting.
If the new trucks are the size of the older F150's bringing in the mileage you are getting I definitely will take a look.

I realize this is a bit subjective, but how is it for comfort/driving position on a trip? So often a vehicle seems OK on a test drive, but becomes uncomfortable/cramped feeling after an hour or so.

Given the stupid prices used trucks are going for these days (and pretty much all you see on the used lots are tacomas which I have zero interest in), I might consider a new one next time around. I'm sort of holding out for the return of the Dakota, but that seems elusive.

Not sure how well I can answer your "seat subjective inquiry" but here goes... We think they are largely the same comfort level, as what our 2017 Taco had, that is, they are pretty darn comfortable seats. Having said that, they are much more adjustable in the Ranger but its also a fancier model..

We are liking this truck more and more with each mile and seems there is 1400 on it now. (not all ours) I need to get fuel in it today and I'll post another "towing mileage" report. Love that "lane assist" software and we run it all the time! (note, you must be going faster than 40, before it comes on)

Only bad points so far is its climate control buttons bite. :thumbdown: You can't see them worth a hoot and adjusting them is difficult so they'll be impossible to adjust, with gloves on. They should have used knobs....

We do. We test drove the dark interior ones and thought we'd never find anything you every dropped.

Just starting to test it. The adaptive cruise control works flawlessly. The auto bright and dim also work good but we’re fooled by streetlights. The blind spot lights on the side mirrors are helpful. The outline running lights look good.
The tailgate does not have an assist but it is very light, I think it’s aluminum. The automatic windshield wipers swiped once tonight and it’s not raining but we do have a lot of night bugs hitting the windshield.

The ten speed transmission is impressive and the truck is very peppy. The blind spot setting lets you adjust it for the length of your trailer. The lane assist does slightly pull you into your lane if you wander. I have not felt the steering wheel vibrate but I’ll test that tomorrow. The puddle lights are nice so I don’t step on a snake at night. It doesn’t ride as rough as expected but I did not go off road or a bad street.

The dealer did not add stuff to increase the price which I appreciate and they threw in a spray-in liner.
The next thing I need to add is window tint to the front windows and the windshield, yes windshield it is legal in Texas, I have it on our other vehicle and it is so nice on the eyes. Oh, I noticed the windshield is a soundScreen windshield.

Very nice Don. You'll be glad you got the bedliner.... I've had it in last 4 F-350's. You can hose it out or pressure wash it to make look like new.
