    Welding plastic

A lot of "plastic" fenders on tractors have a fiberglass or some other fiber component to them. Very rarely are they a plastic that could be welded back together. I was working for New holland when they introduced Plastic fuel tanks on their Genesis tractors and some of them were getting holes...

As a follow up, name brand doesn't buy you clean power automatically in a generator. The Northern tool Powerhorse generators are far cheaper, but meet the 5% THD requirement.

    Everlast 210STL Users Out There?

It doesn't have to be visible. It messes with the control circuit and transformer. What you are describing is typical of that kind of problem. That's why I went out on a limb and mentioned it. Generac, if you call them, should have an idea what THD that model puts out.

    Everlast 210STL Users Out There?

Unless it is a X series Generac unit, it is NOT clean...and likely the source of the damage. It can be immediate if it is dirty enough or cumulative if it is off the specs we provide, but not at 25% THD like some.

    Everlast 210STL Users Out There?

What generator was it? If it was over 5% THD, it could burn up the boards (not clean power). We do have a warning in the manuals and on the website about it. It could also not be enough power? I think you need about 9000 watts. When you shut down, was it always disconnected? Floating...

    Everlast 210STL Users Out There?

Usually, when this happens, it's an issue with not having serviced it lately. A lot of times you can open it up, remove the connectors, blow them out and replug them and things will start working again. We recommend that those units that are used frequently be cleaned out every 3 to 4 months...

    Old Mig wire

70S3 is not worth welding with to begin with. It's a budget wire and has little to no deoxidizers. It welds badly unless the metal is 100% clean and mill scale and rust free. Recycle it, because if it has rust, it won't be worth tearing up your liner to try to weld with it.

No, that's about right for a transformer for 90A rating. And that is an "average" rating they give, not a max breaker rating for inrush. A transfomer capable of welding 140A at max output will trip a 30A breaker. Hobart's own data shows it's only a 9% duty cycle at 140A. That's less than 1...

Any way to weld the thin metal on tractors and attachments?

All processes produce xray quality welds, including stick. It's no harder or easier than any other process. It takes skill and understanding of what is going on to do it with any process.
  87. Mark @ Everlast

Any way to weld the thin metal on tractors and attachments?

Any welding process should be able to weld what you listed. For stick, just use a small rod like 5/64 or 3/32. Use something like a 7014. Or for MIG, just use something like .030" wire. TIG can do it, but that's an investment a lot of people don't want to make.
  88. Mark @ Everlast

Any way to weld the thin metal on tractors and attachments?

Any weld from any of the processes, when done properly will hold and work as good as the other by and large. No. We are the manufacturer, not a dealership. We have a different structure than Miller or Lincoln where they use dealers. Nothing we could do with a trade in. However, if it is one of our machines, we do offer a 6 month trade up policy if the machine isn't what you need. Or you could list...

A proper sized bottle of helium is more than a 100 bucks. You need a lot of flow rate with Helium. One guy priced a bottle of helium and was going to use DC. He was quoted 500.00. He bought a new AC DC machine because someone misled him about DC. He figured after a couple of bottles of...

The Storm is coming in November.

Here is a video that weld.com did for an evaluation. Please note, I do not recommend using TIG on this unit. At best it is scratch start and will require a TIG rig. That means no amp control or gas solenoid built in for it. And with arc force control in stick (which is the mode you'd have to...

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

Ha. Heard that before...a week later, I'm making a sale. "I never thought it would give up, but I spoke too soon. Do you know how much they wanted to fix mine?" lol. You have to understand this happens quite frequently. A good number of my sales are to former transformer owners whose gave it...
  119. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

FWIW, on our welders use muffin fans, which will work if you match specs. Easy to find, cheap to buy. Same thing with the old Montgomery ward AC stick welder. You still need to match specs if you want the same duty cycle.
  120. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

You assume that because it is "technological" or has electronics, it is both unserviceable, and prone to damage. Just as with anything it is related to design. You also assume it is costly to repair. Our board that takes 10 minutes to replace will likely cost you less than what a switch (if...
  121. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

Incidently, an inverter welder does have a transformer in it, but it is much smaller and easier to maintain and replace.
  122. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

I bet if you opened them up, you'd see degradation of the core. These are often exposed to humidity, and corrosive environments (like the smoke from welding) with little protection of the iron used and very little maintenance (if any). I've never said to ditch your old piece of crap welder...
  123. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

Actually only a very small percent. Transformer insulations begins to break down after a few years, and the fields are destroyed and they basically short out. Years ago it was economical to rebuild them, and many of them were. People forget about this. But in todays market it is not at all...

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

"just a transformer/rectifier" machine hasn't been built in a welder like a MIG or TIG if 40 years. After that they all have circuit control boards...From the 80's forward. It's going to depend upon the capability of the repairer and design of the unit as to what it costs and what can be...
  125. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

Unfortunately, your synchro will turn into a major brick as soon as something happens. The circuit boards in the unit are prohibitively expensive to replace out of warranty, and those machines are discontinued. Miller seems to be obsoleting their products much faster than before and/or raising...
  126. Mark @ Everlast

What's the deal with "digital" LCD screen welders?

They aren't typically touch screen. But actually, a simple LCD screen is very easy and simple to do. The displays are modular and easily replaced. All functions are monitored and controlled elsewhere. I mean, think, though of the intense use and handling a phone gets. It will last. Usually...

The Storm is coming in November.

Yes it comes with a nema 6-50 50a plug which is (and has been for I guess for 50years nearly) the standard for all 240v welders in the u.s.a. the size of the cable on the unit does not dictate the wire size you need on supply conductors though. It is dual voltage. But sized properly based off...

  138. Mark @ Everlast

The Storm is coming in November.

No. Just cutting. For serious gouging you need 80 amps or more and high duty cycle. Our stand alone units do it, but because they are higher duty cycle...and they still are for light gouging 60A and under. The 80 and 100A units would be best for this.
