I just use regular belts on my Alamo (Gates or D&D Power). I always have a spare, though. When I put the spare on, I order another spare. I don't break belts unless something gets tangled in the rotor or I pick up something that brings it to a dead stop. That seems to happen every other year...

This is awesome! Flailmaster will have any and all parts you'd need for this unit. I also have a SHD88, and it's an absolute tank. Just keep an extra belt on hand. The belt will break if you wedge something in it, like firewood (ask me how I know...). The belt size is C54, and I just get...

My solution for my ditch bank ended up being a three point mounted disk mower. I got a heck of a deal on a used one. I use it for making hay and mowing my ditch. It's designed from the start to hang off to the side and only requires 1 remote (to lift it). It weighs less than a comparable flail...

I don't know anything about the Caroni blades, but you can reach out to Flailmaster to see if they have any blades that would fit your mower. They will be significantly less expensive than OEM. If you can post a picture of what you currently have it would help us help you.

When you raise the cutter up the blades have a harder time actually cutting the grass. The grass will be moved instead of being cut. The moving comes from both the air turbulence and the blades themselves. This will cause the grass to tangle into the cutters. The closer to the base of the grass...

I'd anticipate the JD to be about $1200 and the Land Pride to be about $1500, but those might be low as I'm basing this off when I was looking and selling a few years ago. Hello from Eastern WI. I would personally take the JD 25A only because parts are going to be more readily available aftermarket. For situations like that I usually use a Dremel and cut-off wheel to score the bearing race in 3 locations evenly space around the circumference. Usually the bearing will crack at one of the scores when they get deep enough. At that point I can begin to pry it off and it will break at the...

Sprayer Looking for a Chemical Injector

That was already suggested here. The issue I discovered when looking into it is it mixes before the pump using the suction to draw in the chemical along with the water. I tried that. Unfortunately I would have to roll it up every time I mow. And the "light duty" hoses only last one season from my experience. Plus we have rodents. I've used peristaltic (metering) pumps in my designs for work before. I did some brainstorming on this. I'd need to have a pressure switch to activate the pump only when the sprayer pump is running, and it would be beneficial to have some sort of potentiometer to control the speed of the...

I use lower flow nozzles so I can cover more ground on a single tank. I use a 150 gallon tank to spray about 4 acres and I mix chemicals based on acreage not based on volume of water. This is very true. I design machines in the food industry (specifically meat forming equipment). We have bearings that go for 800 hours of run time between greasing. Views from the Operator's Seat

My 2-1/2 year old daughter loves riding on my tractor. So, since I couldn't get any work done with it due to the rain I took her for a ride. She was ecstatic. She stands between my legs and holds the steering wheel pretending to steer.

Reclaiming some land that was in CRP for 20 years. Those poor trees don't know that a flail is coming for them... I have many memories behind the wheel (or sticks of my skidloader) that I wish I would have taken a picture of.

Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

Just discovered that Alamo made a dual rotor flail mower called "Grass Gator". It must not have been very popular because it is no longer produced.

    New (to me) GX45H

Just picked up this GX45H. I like the HP to size ratio. Anything I should be aware of with these? They seem to be very feature heavy compared to some of the other options out there. I like the 2 option HST (foot pedal and stick operated), and the 3 speed PTO (540, 540E, and ground speed). And...

    New Toys

It was a busy Saturday at the dealer... :D Had a Yanmar SA424 and a Massey Ferguson 231 (both with loaders). Yanmar was my mom's, and the Massey 231 was mine. Yanmar was the right HP but too big for my mom, right size for me to too low HP. It also had a 3 point rear blower that didn't work so...

And here's one of my recent loads. I'm sure I was over weight, but I only had a little ways to go and I went slow with the flashers on. 14k trailer (9k load rating). The dump bed picked it up without a problem, didn't have to hand-unload it. And everything was strapped down well.

Here are some of the thing's I've seen out and about recently. They must have had a hard stop without trailer brakes. I wonder how his tailgate works? The only strap on the plow is across the back. Sure, it won't fall out, but it didn't seem very tight and a few good bounces might dislodge it.

Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

I finally finished reading this massive thread. I might as well throw my hat in the ring. I bought this 5' Ford 917 recently (already posted it in a separate thread, but this thread is more impressive...). I'm still working on getting it fully functional. It was missing the rear roller and one...

    Help Identify a Sickle Mower?

I bought this unit for a great price. It does need new blades and it would help to know the make and model for getting the correct blades. Any ideas? And yes, my pitman is broken (again... :( ). I think it needs some adjustments made to prevent breakage in the future. This is my 3rd broken...

Flail Mower Ford 917 Flail mower

No worries about the stubs being too long. I'm a mechanical design engineer and I'm familiar with how to design that stuff. I will need 2 new bearings as there are none on the mower right now. In fact, one of the bearing housings is missing as well. That I can get from Messick's for $50. The...

Flail Mower  Ford 917 Flail mower

First post, but cruised the forum for a while for information on flails. I just picked up a 5 foot Ford 917. It wasn't a screaming hot deal, but it was local (as in it was stored in a shed I rent out on my property...) and a decent price. It is missing the rear roller. Messick's has it, but...
