Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Though I didn't get into the details above, I actually tried to find someone that would come out (while tree was standing) and had no luck.

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

They didn't. Though I agree with your sentiment, I kept an eye on them. They are alive in the picture. It was a bit surreal....almost like they were protecting either a queen (or 500 of them) or maybe the brood.... none the less, several days later I'd say 90% of them were gone. There...

    Waste Oil

I take my stuff to recycling location. They have a SINGLE oil collection drum. Probably holds 500 or more gallons. I will have 30 weight oil for both my tractor and backhoe. I will ALSO have 0-20 weight SYNTHETIC oil for both cars. Any issues, from the perspective of the recycling...

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

Had a standing dead tree out in the field that I keep cut. There was a knot in the tree that was actually a hole. Think of Whinnie the Pooh sticking his hand in a hole in a tree and that's what it was like. I AM sting allergic....been to ER once, also had 5 years of sting allergy shots so I...

    PTO gear pump mounting question

I had some bracketry made for mine. It has available, a plate that interfaces between the increaser and the tractor. I had a local friend fabricate it. 'my' increaser has a vent but, the vent as has been said, can be moved to the side by swapping the vent/plug. (powers 15' hydraulic flexwing...

I double that. I think the person who designed/engineered those, should be flogged. If they are deceased, they should be exhumed.....flogged, then reburied.

Put a vertical exhaust stack on my CUT

Looks great. My JCB has a vertical exhaust. I might hit a low hanging branch from time to time (have learned to try to dodge them) Bent my exhaust. Yours looks pretty tall. I get that if your canopy won't go under a branch, your pipe won't so you should already be aware of that...

    Who Makes a Trouble-Free 60" Diesel Zero-Turn?

Just a meandering comment... I bought a JD 430 used. Fixed a couple issues (new blades, had to grind the nuts off to remove them), new belt, did fluid change.... It's been a workhorse for me. I use it to cut the fairly flat field in front of house and also my yard. I DO agree that they're...

Pulling a dead bearing off a Peruzzo flail mower roller

(never having seen in person a flail roller) Would dry ice work on the inside to shrink it? Would heat work on the outside to enlarge it? Years ago, I had a dirtbike. (1983 Maico 490) Rebuilt the engine. How am I going to get the main bearing & stuff out? Turns out heating the engine case...

Lighter weight log chains -- where to buy?

I needed to buy a chain once. I've got (an approx) 90 hp industrial loader/backhoe. I wanted to get a chain that would give it a fight. I finally found at Labonville, a grade 100 alloy 3/8" chain that was made by Pewag. The links were SQUARE so they bite into a log with hardly any slipping...

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

Don't let those little SOB's fool you..... they are fast. Years ago, I was cutting back side....I was on a hill and mowing down, verses up. I stirred up a nest and they were buzzing about. Pointed downhill, I simply pushed clutch in and gained speed coasting verses taking the time to stop...

Is anyone here familiar with scaffolding?

We redid our log house. My brother in law had some scaffolding.....he loaded it on his trailer and brought it from one hour SOUTH of New Orleans, to Knoxville, TN. We had it here for probably two years before he finally got it all taken back home. Came in VERY handy/dandy. One person is/was...

Pros and Cons of allowing Cell Tower on Property?

Pros and Cons of allowing Cell Tower on Property?

I'd reside on the side of "no thank you". Years ago, we (my father in law next door) were approached about a tower. We have the highest hill in the county on the farm and all three houses are on the lower edge of it, near the lake. It's an excellent location for a tower. It is (will also be)...

    Doesn't make sense to me....

That price is pretty much everywhere that I've glanced (within pennies). I didn't however, look at any other station to see if they had baggies over the pump handles so I don't know if that is wide spread or not. Might be as simple as they had a (main) pump issue so had to shut down some...

    Doesn't make sense to me....

For the last year, gas prices have been going up. We each might/do have our own ideas as to why. What I'm finding curious and brought up to my wife yesterday: Just a week/two ago, gas was roughly, $4.55/gallon. All pumps were open and nobody waiting in line. Yesterday I filled up and out...

When to plane rough cut lumber?

Here's a stupid little story....at my expense so feel free to laugh at me. 20 years ago, we were building our (log) home. Part of the upstairs was going to be stick built but made to LOOK like logs on the exterior (1x12 every "4" inches a gap and chink between) There was some kind of beetle...

    Never plant Bradford Pear

This gave me a chuckle while nodding my head in agreement. My wife wanted to build a Gazebo behind the house (next to the woods). She brought a Wisteria here, planted it EVEN THOUGH at the time (maybe 10 years ago? and even up to THIS day, there is NO Gazebo) Nice pretty plumes when it's...

Not sure if I did it correctly..... but to cut to the chase, we finally had some BOOM today! Fired cannon three times. Though it went off three times, the first one was a quasi dud since I didn't have the wadding in there tight enough. It was more like a giant sparkler. This (if I'm doing...

I would have taken it to a machine shop and paid to have them extract it before I would have drilled into the cannon itself. The balls...well, are expendable and/or, can be resmelted back into shape (doubt I'll ever do that) Also, there were gaps between the balls (both of them) and the bore...

OCD question....do you mean "grain" as in a "spec" of powder or do you mean it as a unit of weight? "39 grams" for example. I've been told by my new, never met yet cop friend that roughly 2 ounces should work for a bang and some smoke. If I want to launch a projectile, I should NOT go over...

Here's the ball that came out. The flat side that's on the right side is what I referred to earlier. No idea how/why it's there. No idea if that was part of a deformation issue. When the drill bit "bit", it ended up spinning the ball. You can see the smooth sides on the ball where it...

Can't verify yet but that's totally supported by how it's acting. One would think if you had a round ball in a round bore, you could ultimately pull it out. (I had BOTH feet pushing cannon back while pulling on the drill embedded into the ball via drill bit) with both arms and NOTHING was...

    Separate Nails from Wood Ash

A bit of work but I've always de-nailed the (only a handful) of pallets that I've had and then, toss pieces onto fire. Simply not worth the cost or effort to have a rear go flat on me because of an errant nail. Bad enough for a front (backhoe) tire but those rears get downright heavy and...

    Ideas for cannon ball extraction?

Yep, got one of those. (though mine is not wide enough) anyway, the issue isn't the diameter, it's the length. I'd need one that is say, 30" long (maybe not exact but the point is, most are only say, 10/12 inches so I'd not be able to reach my problem area)

Heh, I'm not sure, but I'm going to speculate that you've never picked up a (bronze?) cannon by yourself. It was all I could do to lift it onto the hand truck in the picture. Weight wise, it's doable but it's SO awkward.... no good lifting handles and then, with it intact, it wants to hinge...

    Concrete Floor Leveling Question

Heh, I wondered if someone would mention something like this.... At one time, she wanted to buy a second home in Florida. So I found a job opportunity down there, took it. She lived here as her father was ailing (now passed) and wanted to be closer to him. About 5 months after I moved into...

("I've got your stand, call me at.....") No, she said something like ".....and keep your trespassing a** of the...

    Trespasser.....what would you do?

Wife, sister in law and myself walked some family land that is disconnected to our homestead land. This land is about 60 acres, 15 minutes away and is essentially a rectangle. A 4-lane highway borders one side of it (a short side) the other short side is bordered by 3-4 houses....and a lake...

    2005 Toyota Camry

Didn't think about asking about this..... I drive a 2005 Camry. (approaching 300K miles!) Last winter, the heater fan got weird on me. It has something like 5 positions on the variable speed. It is DEAD on all of them but the highest speed. So you are either on 'off' or 'maximum' fan with...

    Five Minute Jobs

A slightly different slant.... Wife bought a Bombay chest. Had three drawers. She gets a hair brained idea that she wants it to be a bathroom vanity.....and "I" am going to get to transform it. Hmmm.... So I gather tools, think about it. Oh, she is going to want a sink on top AND working...

    Fuel tank cleaning

When I cleaned my tank (preface: It has something like a 1" bung on the bottom) I took a pressure washer to it and had at it. When I was done, I took my garden pressure sprayer (that I use with diesel in it to start my fires) I filled it with fresh diesel, sprayed out the tank to ostensibly...

    Batwing with a single remote?

I've got a hydraulic mower (blades are hydraulically powered via pump on PTO and then the wings/cutting height are controlled by the tractors hydraulics) I don't think I'd want it to all operate on one remote (though I wonder if you could do that such that it raises/lowers FIRST and after...

    Cup holder

Stop aging us.... But yes, it was quite a while ago. I didn't have a tractor back then (was looking) but I DID use my wife's uncle's tractor to cut the farm (he lives next door and was 1/2 his farm). The fenders on the IH 444 didn't really allow a flat surface so I never tried the...

    Cup holder

Years ago (on this forum) I believe it was Mark Chalkley (MChalkley)....came up with a nifty idea. Bought a "Big Gulp" (I think it was called) and used some kind of epoxy glue to glue some old and very strong PC hard drive magnets to the bottom of the cup. Now, it simply sticks on metal fenders.

Just got my weekly "your car warranty is running out" solicitation call....

I'm working from home today. Preparing for my next phone meeting. Phone (my WORK phone) rings so I answer and of course, it's the nice recorded female telling me they've been trying to reach me about my cars warranty.... I've got a few minutes to spare so I figure let's slow them down a bit...

What is a test for Steering rams mid seal failure?

I don't know how you'd specifically test for that.....are all other hydraulic items working properly and the steering is the only issue? (that might be your test!) I had that happen to my backhoe. If I raised the wheels off the ground, I could pretty easily turn wheel. If I was driving...

    Engine seized???

I don't know how the front of yours is configured to the pump. I have an industrial backhoe. I have a shaft out the front of engine that goes to my pump which is in the nose of the machine. ON THAT SHAFT, is a universal joint. I don't know about yours, but in my case, I'd feel comfortable...

    Engine seized???

Not sure I've seen your question clearly answered.... If I understand you correctly, you're asking about turning the engine over by using the flywheel at the back of the engine where the starter might engage to start it. You might find it easier to put a socket on the front of the engine...

If you hit a dog in the road, would you stop

Given that I know the answer.....I'll ask anyway! Who's responsible if a deer hits YOU??!! I used to drive a Miata so, a pretty small car. Live in country and lots of deer around here. I've learned that if you see one, there is usually one or several more behind it. I was driving to work...
