I'm looking to buy a used skidding winch. It should in the 3.5-4.5 ton range.
Nothing really brand specific as long as it's one of the major brands.

I'm willing to travel if the price is right.

I tried to buy a used winch but everyone I saw was used hard/abused. I bought a new 7000# Igland winch and have had zero issues in the past 9 years. It was less than $500 to upgrade to a new unit.

Not many to be had used in my area and the sellers were asking close to new prices even though the cables on theirs were well used. So I bought new one on sale from Dads4by and had it shipped to me.

FWIW, I payed $3K for a lightly used, Canadian made, Wallenstein FX110 (11,000lb) winch a few months back. It also came with a self releasing shackle. The bad news (found out when I got it home) is the PTO was stuck onto the implement and I had to destroy the u-joint to get it off. I should of just left it on there lol.

It's hard to find good used implements for larger tractors around here. I will buy them from the East coast or Texas if I have to, but the shipping adds a lot to the cost.

No mention on where these are made.
That's a red flag for me but still curious. The Iglands at Dad's 4 By...they said shipping would be around $450
Made in china and china metalurgy is always a coin toss!

You pay your money and take your chances!

What model did you purchase and how much was shipping?

I bought the Igland 3501 and the shipping to Middle Tennessee via XPO Logistics was $274 in March, 2025. I requested they ship via XPO because they have a terminal near me. I think Dads4by passes along the actual shipping charges.

They quoted me higher $450 to the Ozarks but XPO would be a better option. I looked them up and received another pallet there years ago. I was also looking at the 3501 but trying to justify getting one with other commitments right now.

Dad4by's initial estimate of the shipping charges to me was $300 which I thought was pretty close to the actual charge of $274. I might have saved a bit by having it delivered to the terminal, plus I knew I wouldn't have any delivery truck problems by having it delivered to the terminal.

I don't have much experience with tractor winches, but my initial impression is it's amazing how quickly the winch can pull a good sized tree trunk out of a hillside where it would be unsafe to drive a tractor. Plus the ability to add chokers makes it faster to winch out limbs along with the trunk, too.

Could have saved myself a lot of time and work by buying one sooner. It just depends on how much use you have for it.
