Stihl vs Husqvarna

I've owned a 562 for 8 years now. Only issue has been the hot start but I've figured out how to manage that.
I have a 24" woodland pro bar and semi skip chain. I like the length but no the bar weight. Going to buy a husky 24" x-light bar after xmas.
The saw has no issues with the 24" bar or semi skip chain, even in hardwoods. It really punches above its class.

I'm pausing on the Stihl 400 to have a look at one of those. It's hundreds cheaper.
I've owned dozens of saws, but no Huskys. Maybe this is the one to try?

Make sure MKII. Totally redesigned.

Fixed the hot start issues of the past and tossed the crank stuffers out that was helping them burn up bearings IMHO.

They still have the dished piston they went to to try and fix the issues of the first gen1 ones.

Shows how much bigger the exhaust exit is on the mkII too.

I have ran the 400.1 for several months and it’s impressive for its size and weight. It has more torque and you can feel it. In testing they wanted us to stress it and find weaknesses so I ran a 32” bar on it for several hours of use and it did okay.

I have a big part of my family in northern Michigan who are loggers and run Husqvarna only. Between the stihl 290 and the husqvarna 460 rancher me and my dad own I prefer the husqvarna

Stuffing the crankshaft will essentially change the compression ratio of the lower end leading to lower pressure on the up stroke leading to more air fuel mix, in theory anyway.

So if we ran a Stihl 400 v. a 572 MkII with 24” bars, who comes out on top?

(I realize the Stihl costs $300 more)

I *might* sell my 261C and move up to a 400i. 261C has paid for itself 10 times over, but it’s still in nice shape.

The 400 will beat a 562.


Now if you are really talking about a 572, and not a 562, the 572 will be very close to the 400. A 572 should be way above a 400.1. I say should be because I don't even think the 400.1 is in the US yet.

I just have not warmed up yet to the modern saws with a computer chip in them. I like my old true two stroke saws without stratified motors. I use them a lot at my cabin and there is not a shop close to put on a computer if something goes wrong.

I have some saws that are 50 years old that still fire up and work just fine. I do not think the same will be said for some of these new saws. They have planned obsolescence built into them via the parts...
