Help identifying PTO shaft profile

Hi all,

I just bought a used three-point snow blower and it is missing half of the PTO shaft (tractor side). Can anyone tell me if this takes a square/rectangle shaft? Or is it something else? I believe the squared off dimensions are 1 1/8" x 1 3/16". I've never seen the channels before on a PTO shaft, but then again, all my equipment is VERY old.

I'd just use a square on that fits. The dimensions sound right for it. Not sure on the "extra" grooves.

It would be more accurate if you can look at the other end (deep in the hole) as it would not be worn. They may have had a rectangle to keep the u-joints in phase.

It's getting a bit harder to find the square pto shafts, the reason for the slots was to allow a small bolt or screw to be used to "clock" the shaft for the ujoint alignment.

I think that's it! 35 Series. thank you. Boy, Weasler parts are expensive. It seems the 35 series is proprietary to them.... just my luck.

The 35 series is an old Rockwell series of driveline. Weasler is just one of the few companies that supports the really old stuff. Its far from proprietary, just ancient.

Extra grooves in square female tube are so front male shaft u-joint will be timed/phased correctly to rear u-joint. My JD 3pt 709 rotary mower has same type drive shaft. John Deere AW16648 Rotary Cutter Yoke with Shaft

Makes sense, my square ones are "rectangles" for the phase.

Hi um, there are more than 1 series that uses square/rectangle shafting. The easiest way to determine if it's 35 series, is measure cap size of u-joint. If it's 1-1/4" , with old school pinch snap rings and not with holes , and square profile you are on the right track. I use a book that has them in order, and check more than one measurement to be sure. 35R is indeed quite common regardless
