I have 2 JD 130s. I believe one is an'86 and the other is an '88. I have been beating up the '86 for years. I picked up the '88 for parts, specifically for the mower deck and seat. I am looking to possibly try to rehab the '88, but am having trouble finding parts. Whenever I search for JD 130 parts, 90% of the links are for newer, lettered 130s, like D130.

I have been searching for an inexpensive carburetor for the FC290V, 9hp Kawasaki but all of the ones that come up have the gas line on the opposite side. They say they are for an FC290V, but on different JD models.

I have searched for JD 130 here, but haven't found anything. Could someone point me in the right direction to help me get started?

This is the one I am trying to find parts for.

Can you post a photo of the carb. That will help us when we look for one for you.

Interesting the you are seeing the carb with the fuel supply line on the wrong side.

Look closely at the carb. There should be a part number or model number on it and perhaps also the Mfg's name.

Good photos.

These are the only markings I can find on the carburetor.

Well there should have/could have been some part numbers on there, but no.

So the search goes on.

I looked again and found some faint numbers!
They are very hard to see. It looks like I2402 c672 or 12402 c672

OK a couple of questions.
1. why not just clean and use the carb you have ?

2. is there room on the other side of where the carb is mounted to use one of the carbs that you found that have the fuel port on the opposite side from what your current carb has ?

1. Great question! That is what I was trying to do when I broke one of the float valve pillars.😄 I got it all cleaned up and used some JB Weld to fix the pillar. I put it back together this morning and got it to fire up for a few seconds and that was it. When I brought it home, it fired up once and was revving at super high rpms. Then the PTO fell off and that was it. I thought a $30 carb would be the easiest thing to try. I think I am in over my head.

2. There would be room to run the fuel line to the other side of the carb but I am not sure if the other connections would line up.

Could anyone direct me to information on how to adjust the carb to get it started? The last carburetor I worked on was on my '64 TR4 in 1970.

I'm not going to ague over that statement. Get a copy of the engine repair manual, read up on the carb section and make sure that the governor is connected properly to the carb.

Good luck.

Thanks, I just downloaded the Engine Service Workshop Manual FC290V FC420V FC540V . There is a lot of good info in it, but unfortunately, it doesn't give any info on how to adjust the carb. I'll keep plugging at it.

I got it running! It idles nicely. but the smallest bit of throttle cranks it up way too fast.
I believe I have the Choke and throttle hooked up correctly.

I've got the engine running pretty well. I found that I had a weak spark, so I tested the Electronic Ignition Module and it was way out of spec. I got a new one for $3.99 on Amazon and installed it along with a new plug. I also got some gasket material and replaced the carb gaskets. I was also able to adjust the the governor so it spools up nicely now.

On to the next issue... When I first started it, it revved really high and the PTO came off. I set it aside until I could get a new bolt and spring washer. I was picking up apples off the ground the other day and lo and behold, there was the bolt and washer!!! I have yet to install it back on the engine. So my question, When I put the mower in gear, the drive belt doesn't turn. Does that have something to do with the PTO not being attached?

See the manual that I sent you the link on. And yes, the PTO clutch has to be on the engine and the belt connects the clutch to the deck pully.

OK, Now we're cooking! I got the PTO back on and was able to drive the tractor around. THe shifting was pretty sloppy. The shift doesn't always line up with the gear indicator. Sometimes I have to shift to the reverse position to get into neutral. Then when I can get it into reverse, it will slip back to neutral. Any hints on what to look at to tighten it up?

   / JD 130 parts question #20
Look at the manual, there are instructions on how to adjust the shifter.

One thing you might want to check is this nut holding the shift rod to the shift lever, make sure it is tight:

See the circled bolt.

Here are the instructions for adjusting the shift linkage from the manual:
