We missed a white Christmas this year because rain melted the snow two days before Christmas. I woke up this morning to this wintry scene. Not a lot, but some needed moisture.
I haven’t heard of too many places getting normal snow this year. All of our ski areas are open, but they don’t have the base depth that is normal for early January.A month or so ago we had an inch or two of snow. It's long gone. Instead we are getting rain. Rain, fog & cold temps every day. Maybe some snow in Feb or March.
I will be picking raspberries in August.I don't think you can say "White Christmas" or "White New Year" anymore. Some might say it's racially motivated.
Winter came early down here. We hit a brutally cold 45 around the first part of December. It's now 37 and my heater is blasting! Looks like I'm staying in today. I might venture out later. I got a new long-sleeve shirt for Christmas.
Hope to be picking strawberries in late February.
And yet we’re probably only a days drive apart.Everything is dried up by August down here.![]()
Sunny and cold here today (21 degrees) but snow forecast for Sunday/Monday.12 here this morning and supposedly a big snow coming in next week. Not holding my breath on that.
I like snow. Always did. Winters like we've had so far suck, can't do "winter" stuff outside because there's no snow, but it's a little too cold to do anything else, plus the ground is frozen.Snow storms just give me an excuse NOT to go outside. I prefer to read a book in front of the bio-mass stove and toast my feet instead.
That last photo could be a post card. JonNo white New Year's here either. I spent New Year's day out in an area about 80 miles west of my place in what's called the "Lava Beds". No snow to worry about - until two days ago weather was warm and dry.
Looking at the Black Rock Desert from the Lava Beds:

Two days ago the weather pattern changed. Now we have about 5" of snow on the ground...and the forecast is for snow and snow showers for the next 10 days. Telephoto shot of my neighbor's place:

We got about 6" overnight, and still coming down. A good start, though rain is predicted mid-week.It "snowed" most of the day yesterday. Wahoo!!! I have about 3/4" on the ground. Just about enough to make everything white.
A LOT of Deserteagle71's photos could be on a post card. Amazing scenery (and photography)! That last photo could be a post card. Jon
All the "joy" of our snow whitewashing are gone. It's +5 F this morning and looks like it will be this way, or colder, for the next few days. Fortunately - only gentle breezes.
