Kubota L3710
I tried to pull a big rock out of my yard with my Kubota L3710 and got nowhere. Today it occurred to me that I should think about getting a come-along.

So how hard can a 37-horse tractor pull? I don't really know. I can get a come-along that supposedly pulls with two tons of force.

I also have a Dodge with a 5.9 Cummins. They seem to do well against farm tractors, at least on Youtube.

Generally speaking a 4-WD tractor's ability to pull without losing traction is proportional to the tractor's bare weight.

Sufficient tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used.

Within subcompact and compact tractor categories, a significant tractor capability increase requires a bare tractor weight increase of 50%. It takes a 100% increase in bare tractor weight to elicit MY-OH-MY!

Yes, tire type makes some difference, as does transmission type and the soil under the tractor tires, but the key metric is tractor WEIGHT.

Based on experience I SPECULATE your tractor can pull/drag a rock around 2,000 pounds (+/-). A fairly high friction load.

Thanks for the help.

So a big come-along chained to an oak should be a lot better.

Should be...........if the big rock weighs no more than 4,000 pounds and the rock is not mired in cement-like earth.

Drape a couple heavy beach towels, moving pads or old blankets on the cable as it draws taut, before applying full force.

Oh, it's mired all right.

Sometimes I wonder if it's the size of a house, and I'm trying to pull it out by one tiny corner.

Somewhat unlikely in Florida, but not impossible.

In nine years of plowing, ripping, disking and raking soil around Fanning Springs, Florida I have encountered only one (1) rock larger than an orange. That one "rock" was a chunk of soft lime-rock somewhat larger than a basketball.

North Central.

There are some fully-exposed rocks in my yard way bigger than that. One is like a pool table.
