One thing I remember about entering Illinois from Indiana was over 10 state troopers in the first 3-4 miles. They take their revenue collecting seriously.
If you ran your personal budget like our state runs theirs, you'd be looking for all the extra income you could find, too.

I was going thru a picture from the states in alphabetical order, but got to Idaho, and stopped since I haven’t been there yet.

My next state is IL. A picture of the tomb of my wife’s cousin. Visited there in 2013, then went down old Rt 66 before crossing into St Louis.

I wonder if that statue is still there. Chicago lost a few, to the morons there. Illinois is a woke state. I left.

Afternoon all! Typical March weather around here. Might even be a tad warmer than usual.

Our oil company ran around last week and topped everyone's tanks before the big price jump.(can't beat a small family business!).

Wife and I discussed things and decided to order 5 tons of pellets now before they go way up too. We paid 249 last year and they are 319 already. They should be here Thursday. This should be enough for the rest of this year and all next year.

Nothing much going on as far as projects. Just trying to stay warm and dry.

We are both as healthy as we're going to get. Trying to walk every day but the roads and weather aren't cooperating.

Hope everyone stays safe and healthy!

27°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 45° today. Some snow expected Thursday night and Friday, then back into the 60s and 70s next week.

Sorry about your wife's fall, check. Hope she heals quickly.

Had an entertaining door holding experience many years ago, Drew, in a mall parking lot. My first wife and I were getting into our car just ahead of a young couple parked next to us. Naturally, I opened the car door for my wife, as always. The other couple got to their car, and as the girl stood waiting, the guy just walked around and got into the driver's side. She stood there and sighed. When I walked around our car, I said, "Excuse me, miss" and opened her door for her. The guy sat there with a look on his face like 'what the heck is going on here". The girl gave me a sweet smile and a soft "thank you" as she got in his car. When I got in the car, my wife looked at me and giggled and said, "Boy, you just wrecked that relationship," to which I replied, "No I didn't, he did." It's such a simple gesture. I continue to be amazed at the number of men who don't do this.
My wife would be asking what's wrong if I wasn't opening doors and holding chairs for her, been doing it most of my life for the women in my life,
and I'll do so when out and about for others.
It's just being polite and besides it makes it easier to enjoy the view at times 🤠

Good morning! 32° now, may struggle to 42° later. We had windows open over the weekend, now I stoked up the wood burner. Welcome to Ohio in March!

Making flash drives for the service school. That pretty well seizes up my computer transferring all those files. This will be the last service school I do. I have put a huge amount of effort into making sure we have good technical information, I am not seeing any effort being made to make sure someone takes over those duties. One of the "rocket scientist's" I work with has sent an email asking if I was going to maintain that information when I was retired. 🤦‍♂️ All because he is too lazy and lacks the knowledge himself.

@Kyle_in_Tex. did you check Surplus Center? They sell loader cylinders and a lot of those loaders for tractors are fairly "universal" with cylinders. Shame the 2nd rod repair went so pear shaped.

I have a canopy on order for my New Holland. Original Tractor Cab has a small canopy that will fit. I looked at a lot of canopies, most were too large for my tractor. Getting caught in the rain on Sunday was the final straw!

Hope your wife's arm heals ok Check. Kind of screws up the start of spring.

Looks like we are going to adopt a young cat. She was dropped off by someone, she ended up with a rescue. She is at the vet now and we will know later if it is good to go. The local rescue has been trying to find her owner for several weeks and finally caught her. Will post a pic if it is a go.

Well, better wander off and do something semi-useful

Everyone stay safe out there!

Rich, sounds like a good potential for a retire contract/consulting arrangement at a favorable rate to you.

Already $300 here last fall. I should get more, maybe old stock hasn’t gone up.

Have to admit I don’t always do it with car door, as I back out of garage before she can get it usually. . But on a “date” she expects it.

Sorry they did that. I Hate replacing mailbox posts, as mine is against a bank and I have to hang onto the side of the cliff if a car comes by

Thomas try structural Steel tube fill with concrete and plant in ground. For rustic look use rusting steel ASTM A588 works very well

My Neighbor made our new post. Someone hits it, probably find their car parts. Bottom cement tube and backed into lots of big rocks.
Least they could of done is left you a note Thomas. People should just pony up, stuff happens, $ and time to fix should be on them.

One common passion here is taking care of our homes and farms, and the idea of wrecking someone
else's mailbox and not stopping is really hard to understand. But if one is drunk, or high, who knows.
Geez I heard a thunk but didn't know what it was...

Well, if it's any consolation likely did more than $500 damage to whatever hit it. Sorry that happened.

I've never seen that statue of Lincoln, very cool. One of our great ones.

nice visit with my elderly friends, was about to get up from first stop after tea and cookies when knock on door and in
comes little old lady number two. But she really isn't...lot of pizzaz and vinegar for 96, and she takes care of her
daughter with ALS. I sent her home with a box of fancy chocolates from a place in Newtown and she said she would share them with her daughter.
Mission accomplished.

and a little side story...when the older clerk at the chocolate candy store heard my little story of delivering chocolates to a pair of 95 year olds in the old age home,
she grabbed a smaller bag and dumped about 8 little bonbons or something in a bag, free for me. It was her way of thanking me, I was touched.
Now those fancy little chocolate balls priced at ten dollars for two were frankly awful, really rich and syrupy and not hard or crunchy like I like. At least one had nougat or something in it.
I tried three of the eight, spit out two and said that's enough. I'll give the rest to the lady across the street. I'm glad I bought something else for my elderly ladies.
But it was truly the thought that counts.

and I might add the reason I didn't buy hard and crunchy chocolates was on the advice of the chocolatier.
Old folks like softer food she said.
I rarely eat candy but some chocolate almond brittle or similar is a nice treat

The dentist canceled because of my knee replacement, said I have to be on antibodies before they could clean. They communicated with the surgeon, got me pills and rescheduled later this week.

Third strike on getting a new 2.5Ah EGO battery, 2 Lowe's and 1 Ace hardware out of stock. I have 2 more places to try locally.

I went thru the same antibiotic thing with Dentist for a couple years after my knee replacements.

Sucks about your mailbox Thomas.

I hung up on some cylinder shop today. Guy simply would not listen to what I was trying to explain to him. He wanted to argue. He told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. So told him I couldn’t believe he wasted his time calling me when he obviously knew more about the product than I did, and hung up on him. My boss thought it was funny.

We had to say good bye to one of our cats several weeks ago. A local lost and found pets page has been trying to find the owner of a young cat for several weeks. No one stepped forward, this one is moving in with us

Just a quick report to say we made it to Eugene, but are staying in a smaller town south of there called Cottage Grove. We did hit the same places I frequent in Chico today, and they're all there, but in somewhat larger versions. That's a good/bad thing, as there's better selection, but it's harder to find.

Headed downtown here to look for BBQ, but lots of choices if that doesn't work out.

Off to the coast tomorrow...

IF you have access to an old 6 cylinder motor and its' crankshaft weld the crank to the motor and bury the motor in the ground. The crank shaft makes a good, almost indestructible post. The motor makes a good anchor for the post.

Check, I'm very sorry to hear about your wife's broken arm. Durn ice.

Thomas, if I could hang my mailbox on a couple of strings to an over hanging branch I would. I've sneezed while driving and nearly killed myself almost hitting an immovable object. My post is maybe in the ground no deeper than 8"-12" if someone hits it, I hope it comes out of the ground easily.

Roy, hope it passes. Might consider some antibiotics.

Here is what I've learned in a couple of days about hydraulic cylinder rods. There are typically 3 types of rod materials. 1)Cold rolled 1045 carbon steel chrome plated. 2)Induction hardened 1045 chrome plated (the induction hardening is usually about .050" deep). And 3)Chrome moly 4140 alloy steel chrome plated.

Most are #1 or 2. I'm not exactly which mine is, but my buddy thinks its #3 because of the very fine grain structure where it cracked. Could do a spark test, but I don't have a hardness tester...

I try to always hold open doors to let people in or out. On the car, I sometimes open my wife's side normally, but always open it when we are on a date.

Fuel prices trying to depress me. Has me re-considering my 137 mile daily commute. Wish there were jobs of my forte here locally.

Prayers for Buppies and wife, Check's wife, mostly's wife, Stepp's son and family, Randy, Doug and wife, all in silent need, our country, this world, and especially for Ukraine.

Seems Russia is full of propaganda lately....again....same as it ever was. Just finished reading about the WWII Yalta conference. Roosevelt and Churchill believed what Stalin said at the conference, and both left in good spirits...only to be flabbergasted by his crooked sinful ways postwar. Well, Roosevelt passed away, but our high up chain of command was dismayed at what was hoped to be a peaceful post war world. Unfortunately, Ukraine and Poland have been rolled over plenty in the last centuries. Maybe only Germany's military killed more soviets than Stalin/Lenin....maybe....
