Does anyone know the procedure for checking transmission/hydraulic fluid on the sight glass. I own a 6225h and with tractor not running fluid sits at upper 2/3 in sight glass. Start tractor up and drops to just above half. Raise the loader and drops to bottom of sight glass. What is the exact recommended procedure for checking the fluid level. Owners manual does not specify engine running or not??

Drop all implements and your sight glass should read halfway. Raising implements takes more fluids in the cylinders and thus, you’ll get a lower reading. Perfectly normal.

What Aquamoose said. As a further explanation, the sight glass is located on the reservoir. If you raise your bucket or your three point or whatever fluid is taken from the reservoir to fill the selected hydraulic actuator therefore the level drops. When checking fluid level all cylinders should be fully retracted and the three point lowered.

actually it will only make a difference if the tractor has been moved recently, or if the wheels aren't straight,
proper procedure is as follows
park the tractor on flat level ground, lower your fel and 3 point lift, making sure your fel cylinders are fully retracted in, straighten your wheel and power down, then let tractor sit for max 5 mins to allow fluid from the cylinders to return back to the reservoir, then you will get the most accurate fluid level.
now that being said this is the procedure set out by branson on how to get the most accurate level and is not always feasible to do while working.

Awesome thanks

I tend to think that you are splitting hairs. Either way is fine. There is enough flexibility in the exact safe operating level to allow for the different ways to measure.
