OK Guys, latest update.............not that good. My statement of having working glow plugs was incorrect. It seemed to work that one time but not since. Further investigation showed me something that made me really scratch my head. I seems that the "field fix" was a wire from the battery ground post up to the momentary switch on the dash panel(not a factory switch or wiring) then to the glow plug bus bar!!!!!! How is this going to provide any power to the glow plugs?

Would seem to me glow plugs would be grounded at engine block and busbar/wiring to glow plug terminals should come from positive side of battery through the push button (or master power switch) .....

You don't own the only one made, just the last one standing perhaps. What was the date if manufacture? And is the company out of business?

Brand and model would be most helpful. In your description I see Long, LG, LS, and Mitsubishi. A general idea of tractor age may be helpful, too.
Fairly easy to clarify.

He likely has an LG (name changed to LS later) with a Mitsubishi engine and some WR Long hydraulics. Since they only had one 28hp Mitsubishi-engined branded as LG, it is most likely an LG LT280D.

If, on the other hand it is an LS (previously LG), there are a few more possible models with a 28 HP Mitsubishi engine.

Does it look like this one?

That looks to be the one. If I could only find an owner's manual, and a complete shop manual with electrical schematic, I would be very happy. But, it seems they don't exist, which is very strange. I found a Farmtrac 270DTC, which looks very similar, but it is just enough different to be pretty much worthless!

The company(companies that form the bloodline) are all defunct, and LS doesn't claim any knowledge of it's history equipment. As far as date of manufacture..............?????? Maybe someone here can give me a ballpark guess. I was told (Wink,Wink) that it was early 2000's.

I really need some input on adding hydraulic oil, as I don't want to destroy anything due to my ignorance.

I truly appreciate all the help so far, but we have a ways to go, so keep it coming.

Thanks again

Yes, class of 75(damn, when you say it, it makes me feel old).

Anyway, I just came in from finishing the new battery cables, cleaned all contact areas, it cranks better, but no start cold. Then I alligator clipped my death cable from glow plug bus bar to battery+....................BINGO, it fired right off! Now I will test again tomorrow to prevent false hopes, but I think I have it figured out now.

Still can't see where to add hydraulic oil, and by just scrolling posts, I am NOT the only that has this problem!

keep the info coming

Thanks

My baby graduated from there a year ago. She still lives in Lubbock. Fortunately, she's home for Christmas.

Newest info...........my death cable experiment was a success, I now have the dash switch hard wired in where the "hot" side of the battery is fed to the glow plug bus. I can't for the life of me figure out why they had it wired to the gnd side!

On another note, I may have found an operator's manual for MY tractor, we will have to wait on the mail to see if I finally hit the jackpot. If it works out, surely there are instructions there to add/change hydraulic oil(as of now I can only cross my fingers).

More to come as I figure it out!!!!!!

I can't believe it, I got the owner's manual, and feel it is about 95+% correct for my tractor. The part that doesn't fit my tractor is the trans/hydraulic oil fill port. The manual shows a dipstick on top of the trans cover between my feet as I sit in the seat, mine does not have that, it has the sight window on the rear next to the PTO shaft. It also shows the fill port somewhere on the rear of the trans.......................I can't find ANYTHING in that area that would be the port.

It is painfully obvious that this manual was not written by English fluent writers(I know this has nothing to do with finding my oil inlet port, but it does make it more difficult to stay on a train of thought)!

I have already learned alot of good info, seeing as how this is my first tractor, so this manual is not a total loss.

On with my quest to put hydraulic oil in my tractor...............the way is bound to show itself eventually.

thanks again and any info will still be appreciated

Just an idea.
I think from reading through the posts, the loader was added later on.
There could be a chance, that whoever installed the loader, used the fill port as return for the loader valve.
Track the hoses from the loader valve to the back of the tractor. You might find something.
