In the info I've found for the models I'm looking at they all seem comparable. Around 18,000 to 18,500 fpm.

Blade speed cannot exceed 19,000 fpm. Most commercial mowers are slightly below that limit.

Why?

As I understand, It’s an ANSI standard based on how hard the blades will throw objects. ANSI says 19,000 is the maximum a mower can produce to conform with Their safety requirements.

It’s not a law. It’s something manufacturers follow to say they comply with ANSI which limits legal issues.

My understanding is Dixie Choppers do not follow the standard but all the other major producers do follow.

I know my Simplicity Citation XT 27hp full suspension model runs a 18,500 tip speed. At full speed across the lawn at 11mph the cut is as good as at slower speeds. It's all about throwing the grass out the side quickly to allow a full blade to cut at speed.

For those who don't know it, Ferris and Simplicity are the same machines. Snapper is basically a Ferris without the suspension. All are made by Briggs.

I saw a guy at lowe's yesterday with an ariens zturn on his trailer. I asked how he liked it etc etc.

He loves it and went on to tell me Graverrly, Kubota and ariens were all made by kubota?

Anybody know this for sure and are similar models the same machine?
