Stretching Barbed Wire

TBN runs on drivel, per local post police. Beware of imperfection and speak up when you see it.

When stretching wire you kinda have to learn by trial and error vs by high-hoping advice from folks who won't show up to help string it.

btw, A wire break doesn't ruin the whole roll. ;)

1982 - I installed one and a half miles of barbed wire fence( four strands ) around my 80 acres. 1320' x 2640'. A true rectangle. I used a high tensile wire called Ever Sharp. 4-point and sharp as a razor. Used a pipe between the 3-point arms and a wire stretcher. Over hill, over dale. 675 - T133 steel posts. I stretched one roll( 1320 feet ) at a time. Tightened it - hit the tightened wire with a stick. I learned from experience - when the wire made a specific sound - it was tight enough. Then tie it off to each steel post.

The entire fence is still standing. Just as strong/good as the day I finished it.

Liked the video. Sorry - not a member of U-tube.

It might not ruin the wire but it can ruin your body.

Not just snakebites and lightning strikes out there.

I hope you recover quickly.

Awaiting further instruction vs just more drivel from the others.

Enjoyed your video. I've stretched a little (very little)barbed wire in my time. I was hoping to get some guidance on how much to stretch barbed wire or a way to gauge when it was stretched enough from your video. Sorry but "stretch it until just before it breaks" is not helpful:)

Depends on the wire, and the factory wrap. Some relaxes more than others. I like the high tensile stuff even though it is harder to twist.

My digital wire tension gauges is out being calibrated.

Sorry but the only way I've learned how much to stretch it is to break it and realize that was too much. If it breaks, its easy to splice back together so its breaking it is not a big deal.

As long as it does not recoil and wrap you up taking an eye or more with it.
