46 right now...far cry from yesterday's 28 degrees in the early morning.
High in the upper 50's...more light rain...most of this week, in fact. Going to be a rainy Fall according to the long range forecast...

Good morning, all seems normal for this time of year, 7C/44F at 10am, with scarcely enough daylight to see the keys on this laptop. Even with a stiff breeze and two days without rain, everything is still glistening with dew. Thought I would check the temperature gizmo to compare with LS and sure enough it confirms an invisible wetness reading of 90% humidity.

The afternoon got a lot noisier yesterday when they started to harvest the maize in the field on the opposite side of the rail track to us. It is taken whole crop as cattle feed, quite a sight as the first cut through the jungle is shot out in a long arc, right over the cab roof of the tractor following behind to land with some force in the trailer. This 21st century fodder has become the new sound of October, badgers will all have gorged themselves last night on what has been spilt. For weeks to come I will no doubt be finding half eaten cobs discarded in our fields as they return from their midnight feasts.

RS, I never much liked sycamore trees until we got woodburners, now any of their windblown branches are very welcome. It may not burn as long as my favourite, which is hawthorn, but is certainly easier to handle. Squirrels have killed off most of our younger sycamores by stripping off the bark.

Very nice shot of your mown grass BEF, lots of gentle curves to nicely lead the eye.

Don, see, I am not the only one on here who find pleasure in deviating from straight lines. :)

good morning all
46 out now going up to 69 on a cloudy day

Plumber coming this morning to fix water/well pump, hopefully just to pump some air in the storage tank bladder.
Well pump comes on every time toilet is flushed or any water
is run in kitchen sink. Also going to install my new
adult height toilet so I'm not sitting on the floor anymore...
Then at dinner time electrician coming to look over house to see what is needed to install a 10kw portable generator
into an exterior 50amp outlet plus interior interlock panel in basement. I have budget of $1k for his work, will see how far off I am.

Have been researching t connections for propane tanks as Lou suggested. I find the hose connectors/ends to be confusing but once I have all the parts here, will then get the hoses. Also got some plastic feet/stabilizers for tanks so they don't sit on the ground. I have an idea the only thing that will work in the winter will be gasoline.

Need to make trip to grocery store and hang curtains. That should keep me plenty busy today.

I have bought ethanol free gas before in those little cans, but only for my chain saws and weedeaters. I need a better solution for ten gallons at a time.
The more I research this the more I'm realizing I may just have to have two 5 gallon cans of premium gas in garage,
and if not used in six months, dump in car and refill.
I did order a small bottle of Stabil marine 360.

read an interesting article put out by NJ Farm Bureau about NJ fuel tax. State law in 2016 mandates minimum contribution to Transportation Trust Fund of $2 billion annually.
Reduced driving during Covid has created big shortfall so only thing they can do is raise the tax. Gasoline sales dropped as much as 70 percent during height of
pandemic. Gas and diesel tax hiked over 9 percent effective Oct 1, reflecting a 36 cent increase since only 2016. That's a lot of new taxes and doubtful they will ratchet it back if higher
usage no longer requires it. Emphasis on "minimum"...

another interesting fact from the Farm Bureau is that US farm income is expected to drop 3% this year to the lowest level in more than a decade.
The only "saving grace" was PPP and tariff mitigation help from Fed government, which actually boosted gross income up 3% over last year. But that won't last and certainly doesn't help
all farmers.

51 and some fog, going to 70 and more sunshine.

Kyle, the Anatolian was well behaved, also their other 3 dogs. The Anatolian is a stunning dog in appearance, read about it when I got home....had also seen a segment of Virginia Farming on RFD that interviewed some sheep and cattle farmers in the Shenandoah Valley that use them as guard dogs for their animals. Coco is doing much better...but not up for a hike that long, and kinda glad she wasn't with me with so many other dogs on the trail. Thanks for asking. Glad your daughter got to sing/play in church service.

Received the replacement fan and repaired my coffee roaster and roasted two batches with no problems yesterday...a Congo organic and a Burundi Dry Process.

Got coffee started brewing. 38° with light rain. Heading to 47° with continued rain all day. Got leaves blown off back patio yesterday. Then stayed in and read a book all day. May do the same today. Cellar door project is still waiting.
Been watching this milk weed for a few days. It somehow closes up every night.

Drew, I refuse to do any shopping on weekends. It can wait until a day when working people are at work. I bought some drapes recently off Amazon. Even that can be very frustrating. Glad you got some help.

Mostly, most of the work was done by tractor. About 10 shovels full to clean out each end of culvert.

Buckeye, when we had horses and cattle they would go crazy when balloons flew over. I like the view balloons give.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

Good morning, the temp here is 31°F and going to a high of 45. Wind NE 5 mph. 30% chance of showers.

I will be taking the DIL to the dentist this afternoon.

I am wrestling with myself regarding whether or not I should return to work. Part of me wants to go and the other part of me doesn't.
It is not like I need the money, the two pensions pay me enough that I can live on them over the winter. All the important bills are paid in advance. That leaves the three credit cards to play with all winter.

Have a safe and healthy day all

Morning Y'all!

One Month ago the moving truck arrived.

Today only one room has no boxes in it, but we are settling in.

I will start updated the moving & remodeling thread as I got some of my pictures onto my laptop now.

Lots of good news truthfully. My daughter seems happy, friends are coming over to see me, and I've got a new lady in my life (PROMISE just a GirlFriend!! No More Wedding Bells EVER!).

More later.

I hope and pray all are well!
Be well,
David

50 heading to 70 today. A day of recovery for me.

Got more done in the pasture and on the porch this weekend. We have started to turn out the horses, slowly on the new 20 acres.
Managed to slice my thumb on barbed wire cleanup in another pasture. Through the glove, nice 1 1/2 gouge. Thought I might need stiches when it happened. Ran to the house for cleanup and super glue. It looks like it may be ok, no blood or leaks overnight. Lucky it was newer wire I mistakenly yanked under pressure and it did not give. That was stupid.

On the porch, did more ceiling work and started the foam board. About half-way done on the foam board. Ceiling, depending on the light angle, I keep revisiting.

Waiting on getting the dumpster out of here. We used the tractor to compress the stuff, wife's idea, managed to add more to it. LOL.

David, I see Stafford is attempting to downsize zoning now on property. Good luck in your remodeling.

Hope all have a great day and good week. Be safe.

Don, see, I am not the only one on here who find pleasure in deviating from straight lines. :)

Buckeye's curved mowed lines are connected and it makes it look like contour lines, very soothing.

Good morning! 71˚F heading to the mid 80s, no rain. Our predicted winter calls for warmer and drier weather. We are following the rules of climate change.:D

FireWise is deviating from around homes to trail work this week. We will be making the remote trails accessible by making some parts wider for utility vehicle use for firefighting and rescue. One safety system we have in place are cement trail marker numbers every 300-600 yards on the trail. The trail maker number location coordinates have been given to FD dispatch along with the quickest access route for a rescue.

Good morning. It's 74° this morning with 96% humidity and no wind. Our high is forecast to get to 86° this afternoon. The cold front didn't last long? Maybe some rain in next few days.

GD and I went out for lunch at the Dairy Cone then .. UTV shopping Saturday and narrowed it down to Polaris Ranger Crew "Texas Edition" and Can-Am Defender Crew "Lone Star". GD told me she'd be good with either .. she has expensive tastes, like her GF. . They are both, very close in base price but .. Polaris is offering a $1500 discount for anyone with an AG exemption and I got an email Tuesday with another $750. Can-Am .. has no promotions. I lean towards the Can-Am but .. trying to justify and additional $2,250 to do so.

GD asked me what I had planned, to haul "our" new UTV on since I sold the 6' x 12' trailer? So .. made some calls and went up to La Grange and looked at a Ranch King 14' x 83" wide utility trailer. It .. followed us home.

Hope everyone has a great start to your week.

Prayers to all.

41°f and cloudy this morning, going up to 51° today. Low 80s by Thursday, then back into the 50s for the weekend. Chance for rain every day this week except Thursday.

Got a few things done outside Saturday morning before the winds really picked up, turning leaves into shuriken. I retired to the garage, and gave my car windows a good cleaning and a nice polished coating of Rain-X.

Got a few more things done Sunday morning, including mowing one last time down by the road and walking the line trimmer along both sides of the swale between the pond and the road. Got the oil changed on my car, then took a nap just as the rains arrived. Hearing the low rumbling thunder as I drifted off was quite pleasant. It rained the remainder of the afternoon, and some heavier storms rolled through around 9:30pm, giving us more rain through most of the night. No complaints at all about this.

I got out for awhile Sunday, and stopped at Academy Sports in O'Fallon IL. The Wife and I have been talking about picking up a couple of recreational kayaks. We've both been canoers for most of our lives, but never really tried kayaking. She did while she was visiting her son in Texas a couple weeks ago, and really liked it. I've always wanted to, as it looks fun. This seems the right time of year to buy, being the end of the season around here. Academy's website said the local store had a limited supply of one I'm looking at, and they weren't kidding. They had three kayaks in stock, with one being the one I wanted to look at. When I asked the sales guy if he could order a second one, he flat out said he doubts it, that the ones they have were hard to come by. I was a bit surprised by that response, as their website suggests I can order them online and have them delivered to my home or picked up at the store. Whatever. I'll work it out without that guy's help.

Roy, the one thing I always remembered about that Starman movie was the scene in the car where he explained his understanding of traffic signals by observing her. Entertaining.

Rick, a friend of mine who moved to Florida earlier this year just joined a local band there called CHA-CHING. I got a couple of requests to like their Facebook Page, and wondered if you'd be sending them a cease and desist letter.

Going to have to try that castor oil remedy as well, RNG. We have at least one mole that seems to have caught on to the purpose of the scissor traps, and has learned to avoid them. He's even running new tunnels and mounds directly under and along the fence, where we can't put a trap.

Good morning to all! Low of 44, up to 77 today. There is a hint of precipitation possible next week.... I sure hope so!

Drew, sorry to hear about your Sunday shopping experience.... I realized what day it was yesterday BEFORE I left for the store.... put if off until today.

Moss, glad you are getting settled in, we are awaiting pics...

Kyle, very nice to hear that your daughter was again playing at church! I am sure you are a proud papa!

I was able to get 2 side panels glued up, only 5 more to go.... I don't think I ripped down enough boards to do all of them. I won't be able to tell until I get a couple more done. I will get some pics today. .....after I get back from the store.....

The FedEx woes have struck again..... I ordered a set of mirrors for the tractor on the 10th. They were from Hebron Kentucky..... FedEx picked up on the 11th. They sent me an update saying they would be delivered on Thursday the 14th. .....only one problem.... it went from Kentucky up to Indiana, arriving on Thursday morning..... the tracking then changed to "pending delivery ", with no day / date..... the package supposedly left Indianapolis on Saturday morning.... still no update.... I guess the package had to go 'reflect' on the fall colors up north....:D

Everyone have a great start to the week!

...

David, I see Stafford is attempting to downsize zoning now on property. Good luck in your remodeling.

Riptides,

I am NOT increasing any square feet (not really, I am finishing a tiny bit of attic into a closet).

Hopefully, that will not raise eyebrows.

Be well,
David

Good morning all, 54 going up to 69 and sunny.
Did a lot of chipping branches and taking the mulch up to the start of the trail that I will hopefully get in place over the fall/winter. Moved 36 cube feet so far and then chipped another mess of branches, will move that out once I clear more of the trail and it dries some.

Drew-we were probably in Target around an hour before you yesterday, and then Hope depot for 5lb extinguishers, all in bought 2x5lb and a few small ones to replace the kitchen ones that are close to ten years old.
I buy premix to finish off the season for the 2 strokes. Have no found ethanol free here, so go the Stabil route.
I go to the station on 413 near the beer distributor(Ferino Bros.)- put the stabil in the container for gas and powerserve in the one for diesel before I leave so I don;t forget.
NJ just raised the fuel tax 2 years ago, another Christie stick to the head. It was supposed to refund the road budget bucket, but at the last minute went to the general fund. NJ is the worst when it comes to people lining their own pockets.
DavidMFW-glad to see you back with good updates! Lot's going on
LCR - congrats on the new trailer-
Thanks Roy for the Flail link-now on to funding

New Oriental Spruce showed up this morning. Planted and will share pics later when I get time.

Stay safe and be well

   / Good morning!!!! #120,480
bought 2x5lb
Ken, too funny, I just got two Amerex extinguishers from Amazon, 5 pound ABC to replace the BC one in the kitchen with a marginal reading on the gauge.
I know the Amerex metal ones can be refilled. And I will mount it on the wall, which is required by code

off to the wine store to stock up my new wine rack, do a little food shopping, then home to rest.
plumber fiddled with water pump air tank, didn't even add air, and it got its brain back, now the pump doesn't come on after flushing the toilet or letting the kitchen
sink run for several minutes. Some switch must have been stuck on/off. He installed the new toilet, what an improvement and was off within an hour.
