Shipping container for tractor storage

The bigger the tractor the faster the container will fill up with exhaust. Nobody would get into such a situation of course but think of every possibility where you might linger in there too long by mistake or maybe you let it warm up a bit too long before backing out. I live in two 40' containers and have for 31 years. Put a pitched roof on it to run off moisture and to control condensation. They are insulated and I use electric heaters when necessary.

There are containers with open sides... could be a good alternative and they open up like a garage.

Well there is a huge Positive to these storage containers.

I live down here in Florida, but bad weather conditions can exist in many places.

I have many years and many hurricanes of experience where my HiCube 40 footer has never moved an inch

It's currently sitting on multiple patio type blocks on each end, and was originally placed on an angle to my barn due to trees in the way.

Trees have now been removed, and just purchased some almost new RR Ties.

I have 2 hydraulic jacks that are air powered off my compressor, and I will raise each end and slide new RR ties under.

Once both ends are up on the ties, I will then drag one end on the ties until it is finally straight with the barn

I bought one 16 foot RR Tie just for this, to make it easy to slide and not worry about running out of RR Tie before its in the correct place

In all of these years, I have never had any moisture of any kind inside, and the area it sits is near a creek and swamp, so plenty of moisture to go around.

Best decision ever made to get one.

Once moved, I will probably take that moment to also give it a new coat of waterproof paint across the roof for insurance for the future.

Me luvs my storage container :drink:

I was considering a container also but opted to build a covered 澱arn? no walls. I discussed it with my neighbor since the only place I could put it on my acre lot was adjacent to the property line. He said he didn稚 care so I built it for very little....10 years later he turns me in to the county for non permitted structures and set back violations. I have been cited by the county and have paid them $900 thus far in required fees and I have an attorney representing me as I am a 100% disabled Veteran. I have had to pay the attorneys $7,000.00 thus far in fees. Will not receive a final ruling until later this month but if I have to remove everything it値l be another 4-5 grand. But if I had chosen a container it would have not been a violation as it is not considered a structure!!!!!!! My situation is IN THE TOILET!!!!!!
This is ever so hard to hear. When your friends with someone it is hard to ask then to put their words into writing feels funny to ask. I hope your able to get it moved....

With less than an inch clearance, you better have a perfectly level entrance ramp or you will have a convertible tractor or a sky light in your container,

I cut a 53' semi trailer in half, used the front end and set it on the ground with a slope to the back for my John Deere 4105. It works great and Van trailers are cheaper!

Im toying with the idea of a shipping container for storing tractor and other equipment on our new property. The ID of the container door is 101.5 tall at its smallest point. Specs for the tractor im eyeing are 100.7in tall with Ag tires. I have no way to test fitment before purchase......

Thoughts please.

Absolutely Love mine... Have a 40' standard height. Put my motorcycle in the far back, and bring tractor in with loader lifted to top... run a strap from the already in place loops on top corners and shut her down for the winter... plenty of room to still put lawnmowers and other seasonal items to the opposite side and have 25' to spare behind. I recommend using it for toys with wheels as there is only 1 way in/out. all my quads, side by sides, Lawn tractor, etc. are what i use it for.

I used 6 Railroad ties under mine so that it had breathing room. I then put another right at the door and backfilled my slope into the tie that is making contact with container. Works absolutely perfectly. There is an air gap in the front and allows enough room for the latches to do their job. Considering getting another one.

I considered this also, but the work of removing the axle and the frailty when it comes to falling branches and such is why i went with the conex. I do like the roll up door, but for my needs and considering its tucked in the woods, the container was the best option for me. The Corten Steel is nice too. Both are good options. Another consideration is that if you ever plan to move, you can load the thing up with your stuff and hire a guy to drop it at your new place... Have it ready to become your storage shed soon as you unload your goodies.

We've moved my van trailer twice now with a semi flatbed and hay wagon running gear. it's a bit more work but I love the 1.5" thick solid oak floor. I have plastic underneath it and up on blocks so ground moister should be kept at bay. I also found that where i wanted to put my trailer, no semi could get it there and this van was so light a skid steer has no problem picking up either end.

How tall is the high cube (inside dimension)?

A quick Google search for High Cube Shipping Container Dimensions brought me to a page describing the container dimensions. It seems to indicate that while the Height of the Container is 8 feet, the door is still only 7 feet 5 3/4 inches tall.

I keep looking at them on Craigslist. Only problem is I don't know about county regs, like if I can call it temp or portable and not get permit. Since we just pulled permits to build the house we'll have inspectors around too much to "just forget to ask".

DON'T ASK! You Won't get a NO if you don't ask.

We just finished getting a roof installed on our 40' high cube containers with doors on each end. I keep my Kubota M62TLB , MX5800, and my F2690 mower in them as well as a sprayer & spreader. They fit perfectly and I don't have to worry about mice eating all of my wires again any more. With the roof it was still the cheapest 50x40 barn I have ever built and, from what I am told, it might not increase my property tax bill since it is portable. Not sure about that one yet.

It seems to me that a 20' "Side Door" container would be ideal for keeping implements in.

I'd be willing to bet that the permanent roof will prevent you from being able to claim that they are not permanent structures. We ran into a similar issue building a second car port for my parents to keep a boat under. The solution we found was to cheap out and use large heavy duty poly tarps as the "roof" over a wooden frame structure. No Permanent Roof, No Permanent building according to the Inspector who came out. It's been up for 20 years and is about to get it's 3rd set of tarps.

If you don't already have a shipping container you may want to consider a tall one that is 9.5 feet tall or trim the top of the doorway to provide a little extra clearance. Pretty sure the header can be trimmed and still be covered when the door is closed.
I have a 40 ft 9.5 tall and use it for my garden tractor and various 3 point attachments for my compact tractor.

Has anyone considered cutting the side open so that you would have drive in bays - not as deep as they would need to be, but two sea-cans deep would provide the depth - this arrangement would be similar to a machine shed sort of deal - what's the thoughts on that

It is not all that much work to slice part of the roof off (plasma cutter and Sazall), extend the walls as needed, and reattach the roof. You don't need to raise the roof over the entire container just the open end and into the box far enough to clear the tractor when it is pulled in far enough to close the doors.

Is there any prefab building in your area, that are for sale? do You have time to build a building?what is the zoning codes? do you need permits? shipping containers can be a eye sore, but you can paint them to look like a building anyway I think the cost for whatever you choose is going to be high! is it something you need now or can it wait?if it can wait just cover it with a tarp and use bungee cords that is what I use for my tractors & I keep my implements in a out building that I built
