An Amish tractor? Say what?

Have seen a number of local built steel wheels on tractors in the southern part of the province among different groups. Some of the best ones seem to be made out of a rolled OD of flat steel with 1 or 1.5" re bar bent into V type lugs. Similar to that in post #3..

The wheels in post #1 seem to be well adapted run flat, or no flat type tire. "Scrap yard" tires.

One of my SIL's came from a family that was Amish. Her parents left the Amish church after they were married. There was a family function that included a meal. My sister-in-law asked if we would sit at the table with her Amish relatives because the Amish weren't allowed to "break bread" with any of those relatives who left the church. It was OK to eat with people who had never been Amish though.

Here's a wheel of a forklift I saw passing through a small town near Jersey Shore (PA town, not the beach).

Forklift it would probably be okay with, hard surface mostly. That would load up on soil.

I am sitting here trying to understand the benefit of that tire

As long as it runs on gravel, that should be great, it will make a mess on concrete or asphalt though...

There are better options ( In my humble opinion) than those for no flats....

Well maybe for a foundry where lots and lots of hot metal is splashing around.....

But that would have to be like the worst foundry I have ever had the misfortune to be in

I had a Mennonite friend in school. To me he was closer in manner to Amish. He did drive a car to high school, but it was painted flat black, no chrome which was painted black also.
At our reunion he said he had lots of realtors wanting to buy his farm...a few hundred acres, offering a few million making it into a sub division. He said what would he do with the money as it meant nothing to him or his family.

If Amish craftsmanship is so good, then why are RV's built by Amish in Indiana so poorly built?

Are they?

They get paid by the piece. They build so many units per day. So the faster they work, the quicker they can go home. Speed does not always equal quality.

Hard to deal with too. My wife raises Percheron draft horses and she sells to the Amish (and others) and the Amish are hard to deal with. I will say they do pay in cash however.

I thought it was going to be some variation on this idea.

We often work around a large Amish community. One of my favorites is when a buddy of mine walked in the back of an Amish store with the guy who ran it and when he rounded a corner there was an Amish woman standing at a counter filling Mason jars with canned fruit out of one gallon metal Sysco cans. The more your around them you realize that's just how they roll.

it's all about fooling the 'Gentiles'... They do fool easily as you found out. I make it a habit not to fall into that trap of possible and I know many real good Amish jokes I cannot post on here....

I am not quite sure what your point is, but I wont argue since I am unsure what to make of it

I wasn't trying to make a point or argue. Just a comment.

My definition of a "Religious" man is one who does all the right things on the surface.

My definition of a "Spiritual" man is one who does all the right things on the inside.

Its about the person not the group. Last year I went into the local Amish metal shop. I frequent the shop 5 or 6 times a year. The man running the checkout said " I've been waiting for you to come back in" . He said I had left a box of nails on the counter. He told me I could have the box or get my money back It was like 10$. I assured him I had gotten all my boxes , but he had none of it and said he was sure I left the box and gave me the $10 . I then spent it there along with more.

I buy Panel Liner tin from a local shop. I enjoy doing business with them. Very cordial. Very honest. The quality of the tin directly reflects it's cheap cost.
