Can anyone tell me how to relieve pressure in my 3rd function (grapple) lines. There are times i cannot unfasten the quick connect couplers when i want to remove the grapple. My prior tractor had a bleed valve for these lines. Moving my joystick with the engine off relieves the pressure in the lift and curl lines - but not the third function.

Turn the engine off, then turn the key back to the run position, now press the buttons on the joystick-that should activate the solenoid valve and relieve the pressure.

I know that, on my rig, after doing that I need to then 'depress' the 3rd function button on the joystick (you may hear/feel a "clunk" from the 3rd function valve) and, again, move the joystick around.

That relieves the 3rd function pressure and I can remove/insert the couplers easily. (And without cursing a blue streak! :))

I see you have a JD4105. Same tractor I referenced above with the valve for 3rd function pressure relief. My 3rd function used a rear remote which was routed under the hydro pedals with electronic thumb control on my joystick. To relieve the hose pressure, I loosened the small valve on top of the rear remote mount. I was very happy with my 4105. When the grapple was removed, I could use the rear remote for another application such as hydraulic top link. Now I have 3rd, 4th and 5th SCV.

Both my new grapples came from the dealer with pressure in the hoses so I couldn't make the connection. The dealer staff must have disconnected with the engine running. I had to bleed off pressure by loosening a line on the grapple before I could make the connection.

Like the others have said I disconnect after turning the engine off, key back on, press the third function button, and go left and right with the joystick. I make sure I have the joystick centered before I release the button. I have the factory NH third function kit. Seems to work for me.

Just a temp change can make the pressure go up in a detached grapple hose. I would not blame the dealer staff.

I ended up adding couplers to the lid of a 5 gallon bucket to connect my grapple hoses to when removed. Solved all my hard to reconnect problems.

Zeb
Pic of that fabrication? Sounds a clever way to handle the storage time of FEL or grapple.

Zebrafive, How does that do anything to relieve pressures? Not arguing, just don't understand how putting disconnects in a bucket lid does anything? If it works that's a great idea to share and I'm getting my new thumb this week so I'm always looking for ways to improve my processes, but I can't see that as actually doing anything.

Mine came with the flat faced couplers. With the least amount of pressure there was no way I could make a connection. Once I cracked a hose connection and bled them off they connected without a problem. While the flat faced couplers make keeping the couplers clean easier I am not sold on them.

Read what he wrote carefully, he connects the grapple hoses to couplers mounted on a bucket lid, so the lines are "open" to the atmosphere and thus can't build up any pressure.

Others have described it very well. Here are some pointers from Ted..

Kennyd answered for me. With the lines connected to bucket lid, they can't build pressure, and with the lines connected to the bucket, no mess. I do lose some oil each time and I do not put it (oil) back in the tractor. Old oil goes to a guy with waste oil burner. He likes the oil I give him, says it is always clean. I would use in as chainsaw bar oil, but it's too light.

Before I started doing this, I was making a mess pushing the tip against the loader frame, or had to use two wrenches and loosen the tip from the hose. After several times doing that I had to replace the o ring. Tips (male quick couplers) were ORB thread. Hose, male JIC threads.
