The only thing u can do is, put a clear piece of fuel line from the inj. pump inlet to whatever is in line next..
& SEE if your getting any air at the inlet.. if not.. what about a stuck OPEN injector?? forcing compression back into the injector??
I've seen that happen, but it usually prevents the engine from starting..
To check, pull the stop.. & spin the engine w/ your finger over the injector where the steel line hooks to it.. u should be able to feel "air" if its allowing compression back up thru the injector.
How about fuel flow TO the inj. pump?? unrestricted..??
Bypass the Filter with the clear line from the Tank to the pump and see if it still happens. Could be the Filter Assembly could have a leak. Doesn't do it then you know you can pretty much rule the pump out. Put the filter back inline and it does it not much doubt Fitler problem.... Still does it period Inj. pump. See my point.
If you do that it might be a good idea to stop by the hardware store and pick up a B&S lawnmower fuel filter to temporarily bypass the suspected filter but still assure that only clean fuel reaches the pump.
That's what I found on my YM240 when I bought it. The previous owner had discarded the entire fuel filter assembly. (I soon replace this with what belonged on there).
For anybody that cares - this photo also illustrates how the US Yanmars' throttle lever is opposite the Japan version. Its push to accelerate.

Good eye. That's the fresh filter I put on immediately after I bought the YM240. This replaced a similar generic one that had a blob of water in it.At least that filter looks clean and like it was recently changed...or did you put that new one on there before you got the correct assembly?
Yes,I got frustrated with this tractor and needed to work on something else so I didn’t ghost ride it off a cliff. So what I found was, my filter housing was leaking,I ordered all new seals for it when I did the motor rebuild, but the O ring that was sent to me don’t work with my housing and leak air like a sieve. So put a different filter on and I still get air in the fuel ,so must be the pump.Any update?
You really need to know what your doing. I have been around here 10 years or more. Only heard of one guy on here that successfully rebuilt his. Now they can be done. Thepumpguy has rebuilt several here in the last few years when they have been needed for folks on here. He offers a mail in type service on your pump.Yes,I got frustrated with this tractor and needed to work on something else so I didn’t ghost ride it off a cliff. So what’s so hard with rebuilding this pump, do you need special testing equipment? I was thinking I would take a look at it and see what’s wrong with it. Worst thing is I will need to get a new one.
I am saying that I only remember one pump that an owner disassembled and fixed. I remember a few more pumps that had issues. Usually the rack stuck or something. But as far as ones that needed to be fixed, yes that number is probably in the single digits that I can remember. This is uncommon. I've been around on here a few more Yrs. than Clemsonfor and I think there has been but a few Inj. Pump problems. At least you found the problem or Pump problems. With that being said it almost sounds as if someone may have been in that one!! Don't get frustrated you got it!! It just boils down to Repair the Pump or Replace it. If it is Repairable? Personally I'd be hot under the collar also and it would be my luck that it even being so rare it would be mine that done it. I seriously would check in replacing it. Something Stinks!!!!! I would almost bet money someone was in that pump. JMO......

But he is having runnability issues. We have confirmed it's not the first/filter assembly or the injectors (new ones). The only thing left in this system is the pump. If the thing is not running right, pump is off.. timeing or it's ability to make pressure.Seeing bubbles in the line doesn't mean much, most diesels will have a small amount of bubbles in the line, you will beat yourself to death chasing them.. Vapor bubbles are normal to see in a diesel fuel line..
