Next up was the trim and siding, went with PVC for all the trim boards and vinyl for the siding. 1198044322.jpeg

Luckily I bought a set of used alum-a-pole and jacks to complement the old 2x4 built poles/jacks, they came with a selection of walkboards so I was able to handle the 50ft long sides.2029466134.jpeg

I put boards up on the one side to make the future lean too roof a bit easier to put up down the road.1335136554.jpeg

Unfortunately on wall #3 this happened.1833967895.jpeg

6ft fall onto my chest, landed on my left arm breaking the radius, I happen to be left handed also so it really put a damper on the progress for a few months.

After a couple months of recovery, and a lot of help from my dad and BIL, the siding was finally done.20181119_161212.jpeg20181119_161309.jpeg

This gives a better look at the relationship to the house, I still have to side the house so everything matches, that's this summer's project. I'm not looking forward to it at all.20190512_025843.jpeg

I like the location in relation to the house. Convenient, yet enough distance to minimize interference. Very nice setting.

Sorry to hear about the fall.

Your siding came out really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the house done to, that's really gonna be something!!!

I’m glad you recovered from the fall. That must have been an annoying setback! Looking good!

Thanks, the setting was more due to it being about the only place I could put it because of my property, it was supposed to be 5ft further back from the garage, but I got tired of moving dirt

Thanks, I haven't done much siding in my life but in happy with it, not looking forward to doing the house, lot more trim work and the pain of taking off the old siding and doing any needed repairs.

Hopefully it doesn't take as long to do the house, but I'm just hoping to have it done by winter lol

Incredibly annoying! And fairly painful, I broke a couple ribs where I landed on my arm. This happened last Aug and I'm still working on getting my strength back.

Very frustrating to have a nice new shop and not be able to move anything in or work in it.

With the exterior pretty much done and my final signed off on I was ready to do a little on the interior. I cant afford to finish the inside yet but already had most of the materials to build my storage mezzanine (here you go BB lol).

I went with a 10ft off the back wall and full width of the building giving me about 400sqft of storage. I went 8.5ft ceiling under which left 7ft of headroom on the upper level.

Header is in, used doubled 2x12 with 6x6 supports spaced 13ft appart.20190317_193539.jpeg

For floor joist I used 2x10 with 12in spacing on hangers, should be plenty strong as I'm sure I'll be putting a bunch of heavy stuff up there.20190321_203141.jpeg

For flooring I used 3/4 Advantech, really like the stuff, way better then OSB and cheaper then plywood.20190328_185558.jpeg116553131.jpeg

I was able to get some stairs with a landing from my dad's work, I need to space them up about 2inches but they should work, got the landing in the other day, still need to secure it and get the stairs mounted.20190511_171557.jpeg

So jealous! And good to hear you are on the mend. Got to be frustrating to have a set back like that when you are on a roll!

Yup, broke it the first day of a week of leave I took to work on the shop. Plan was to finish the shop and maybe start moving stuff in. Instead ended up in the ER.

I hear ya. Always takes more dirt than first thought. :)

Was able to get the stairs in place the other day, still need to cut some spacers and level/anchor everything.
Kinda wishing I had pressure washed and painted them before getting them in now.20190517_182119.jpeg20190517_182133.jpeg

Those are some nice stairs ! Your shop/barn has taken shape nicely and your workmanship is top notch...... If you want the stairs painted do it now or else it will never get done ! We all have enjoyed your progress and pictures...we are all like kids when it comes to building a shop...

Great stairs. Are they a little narrow with your arms full?

I didn't put railings on mine because of that concern.

Will fork-lift access to the loft be in front of the p-table or in the other corner by the e-panel? I do wonder where the Haas will sit. :D

The more machines in one's shop, the more he/she has to consider what mess from each one might spread to another. Already planned for swarf/dust evacuation (any grinding gonna happen?), smoke evacuation (plan to weld much besides the plasma table?), and HVAC/ventilation systems that won't back-draft each other?

Lots of fun for you to look forward to, and "so far, soooo good!". Great presentation/pics, lots to envy there, and worth waiting for 'next things'. t o g

I havent really used them yet but I think they'll be ok, the tread width is 24", I had a set of wider stairs but gave those to my buddy since these fit my application better.

The railings are bent in slightly from being moved around so that might be what you're seeing also.

No forklift but always on the lookout for one, until then I might build a swinging i-beam crain.
No Haas yet, but I do have a Proto-trak DPM bed mill that I need to retrofit for a new controller, all the machining equipment will hopefully be under the left side of the mezzanine, except maybe the surface grinder.
I plan on closing in the machine area and adding a portable a/c, heat, dehumidifier for climate control.
