Never carried never felt the need to but it痴 relatively quiet here. Living in the country has its advantages

It's quiet here, too, up until it's not. The meth chemists like the seclusion, as do the illegal dope growers. All of 'em are armed to the teeth. At harvest time, gangs from the cities scan the satellite imagery and stage robberies of the growers; your plants or your life! It's a bummer if they get the wrong address and it happens to be yours. I sleep better with a little help in the headboard and a shotgun in the closet, both on push button locks I don't need to see to open.

Rick- Thanks for sharing. Sometimes I have hope for humanity; thanks.

If one serves in military or public service this should never happen in a perfect world.

Too many individuals "transition" alone and possibly feeling unloved. 2 homeless individuals froze to death near here last week; maybe together.

Passing alone happens a lot in longterm care too.

Stuff like this makes me appreciate the connections that I do have.

Not drivel at all, Rich, at least not to me. Usta have a hopped up 850 Norton Commando with Amal MkIIs on it. They leaked slightly less than the Contrics they replaced and cost considerably more than forty dollars, but that was brand new back in the '80s. I'm surprised you'd follow your own drummer with the Amal, and not the herd of folks using Mikunis or Keihns. Are replacement parts still available?

Contrary to the reputation......I actually do not mind an Amal carb, plus I have years of hoarding parts. AmaL carbs are much simpler to tune, but also have some limitations due to the simplicity. For a 2 stroke race engine, the Amal has, IMO, a virtue. The simpler fuel handling system goes rich on a jet transition. That can save an expensive piston. I have a collection of the big Amal carbs in both Concentric and MK II versions. Finding the 40 made me happy. I suspect a certain reed valve Bultaco is gonna sing this summer.

My Gold Star runs so clean on a 1038 Amal, not sure why I would try anything else. It even starts easy. Yea, I don稚 mind Amals.

Good idea on taking notes, but posting in this thread is to relax.....so if I don稚 comment on something....put it down to pure laziness on my part.

Never saw a need to carry personally, never felt I lived or worked in an area that warranted. Actually haven’t even owned a weapon since I retired from the Army, 20 years of annual qualification, some years just pistol, rifle or both, some years a few added like machine guns, grenade launchers, antitank weapons - all fun 🤙

Many of my neighbors also hunt, so plenty of weapons in the neighborhood, but basically the political climate here is not gun friendly.

Interesting to read about note taking.
If I check TBN before calling it a night, usually Eric and Roy have already posted. By the time Check in morning most here are well thru their day so lots of posts. To be honest, I’ve often lost track who said what by time I’m to the end. I need to try harder

I can't believe some of those forecasted temps, how do you protect yourself from temps that low....most people don't have clothing for antarctic conditions. What about equipment like gas pumps? General plumbing in your house? My thoughts go out for people having to deal with it.

An example for you. I went out this morning in my winter overalls, thermal quilted shirt and the usual 'other' clothes AND my French block heater. (watch cap)

As for the house, the basement stays a steady 50ーF. Summer and winter. The upper floor has log walls R value 5 and inside of the logs is a false wall insulated with 2 layers of R 22 Roxul. (It is like fiberglass but not as itchy.) The walls are overall 24" thick. Tongue and groove pine flooring 5/8" x 6" cover the walls.
The attic has R22 in three layers on top of blown insulation. So I have about 2' of insulation in the attic.
Don't forget the we in the north acclimatize ourselves to the winter weather. In the fall when the temps get down to the 40s and 50s, we don't dress up for it. I run around in a T shirt as long as I can get away with it.

My well line is down 5' and there is 2" of styrofoam insulation around the pipe. the 'frost line' here is about 4', but I have seen it deeper. The well driller didn't want to put it any deeper than 4' until I told him that seeing as I was paying and I am the customer he would do what he was told. He did.

ARRRGGG! just when I post about how nice that there is no trash on the road my wife tells me she was driving down one of the major roads in the neighborhood and several cars and pulled on the side had pulled over to pick up up papper that was blowing around in the street. Some of the paper flew across her hood and she noticed it was money! And not one dollar bills either. She did not stop to pick up any money, that's why the "ARRRGGG"!

Blowin' in the wind.... Bet that lady is glad she had a good neighborhood to surround her.

Alcohol and aspirin is a dangerous combination, especially if you aren’t counting the aspirin.

Tylenol and alcohol are not to be mixed.

Good morning, first cup of coffee is gone, time for another.

Felt good yesterday with the temp of about 45. It is 15 now and not really supposed to change much until the bottom falls out tonight. The Cleveland weather is on now, the map was just up of all of the wind chill warnings stretching from the Dakotas to New England. Time to bundle up and toss another log on the fire.

Spent 4 hours walking the swap meet Sunday and bought exactly 1 thing. A 40mm Amal MkII carb for a Bultaco. $40 made me happy. Not easy to find. Impossible to find at that price. I did meet the Ikon shock distributor and drooled over the new lines of shocks set up specifically for flat track. I am thinking the Bultaco is gonna wear a good set of shocks this summer. But then the guy I am working with deserves good equipment.

Enough of boring everyone with that drivel....

But I did get to meet up with some friends I see too infrequently and met some other people. Good weekend.

Time to get my mind into the day ahead....

Everyone have a good day, stay safe and warm

At first I was wondering if you had found a champion frame....Not boring drivel to me either. A Bultaco Astro 360 is/was one of the most beautiful bikes ever made IMO. My neighbor had one. He let his nephew/grandson tear the heck out of it. I almost cried a tear.

Wonder why private solar works but gov solar fails. No need to answer.

surprised that it's only $15 dollars to you each month.

Still busy at work. Got sidetracked on a small project that needs to store hydrogen for long periods of shelf life. Hydrogen is the smallest element. It likes to be sneaky and escape.

Yall stay warm somehow up there. It's a 3 dog night.
