Even though I have a CCW permit I have never used it. But looking back at some of the places I visited. Maybe I should have. Most of the auto plants had standing rules that persons leaving the plant after dark were escorted. Unless it was during shift change. In later years I generally had company truck that got me inside.
I have no reason to carry where I live. Mostly country living.

No need to carry where I work....everyone has guns. It's the dogs you have to worry about. People think they are pets.

I have a valid MA LTC(C), and I too never felt the need. I used to carry snowshoeing when the coy wolves were around. Now it would probably be more realistic to carry some repellent spray. My Wife worked in center city Springfield, MA for ~25 years. I was glad she and her colleagues left work before it got too dark and often left together for "safety."

In hindsight when I did outreach I went into some questionable areas. One of our consultants carried.

Living in the country does have its benefits. I also have a home defense plan if ever needed thanks in part to the S&W firearms training (revolver and pistol) I received.

Drew & Buppies- Take care. Thanks to you two and a few others I am respecting my skin better; not great but anything is better than doing nothing.

That's a big part of why I don't carry much on weekends, Buppies. Nice and quiet out where we live, too. Unfortunately, the mean old City of St. Louis is not quiet at all, and certainly not safe.

Here is a telling graphic to illustrate home vs work.

Getting a CCW in Maryland is virtually impossible even though it is technically legal. You have to prove need, and no reason is good enough. If the local sheriff were not a friend, I could never have gotten one.

Drew, my son and daughter in law are about as well educated as they come, both have Virginia carry permits and an Arsenal. Between the bad folks and bears they feel better enabled.

PJS- Some map . I fully understand your decision to carry. I wish that your "city problem" was unique with its crime rate, but sadly it is not.

It's been lightly snowing here all day leaving a dusting so far.

Used to be like that in Illinois, too, Randy. You either had to be someone special, or know someone in the system. Now, there is a specific list of disqualifiers. Absent one of those things, they have to issue a license to any qualified applicant. There is also a mandated 16 hour course, including classroom and range time.
