Rounded off drain plug

Hereç—´ how hard a pipe wrench will bite. This same pipe wrench which is by no ones standard a quality tool and has buggered up teeth easily holds my weight turning against a floor jack axel. View attachment 582215View attachment 582216View attachment 582217

Those bottom jaw teeth certainly do look a bit rounded.
I sharpened the teeth on mine (formerly my dad's) with a triangular hand file.
Then gave them both to one of my sons.
I have a nice set of 3 aluminum Rigids for myself.

$50?
I got mine for free!
Plumber broke his, and left them by my boiler.
I sent them in to Klein, and got new ones for free.

I got the pipe wrench for free but I had to pay for both sets of Knipex pliers and the Klein adjustable wrench. I’ve got a Klein wrench that I bent the jaw on I should probably send back but then again it was my fault.

First thing would be to turn it over to the recommended position for tightening:

Less likley to break the adjustable jaw.

Then use a 3' long cheater pipe on it. :D

I didn’t have any pipe big enough to go over the adjustable wrench handle. I later swapped to a 12 point socket and breaker bar and drove the plug all the way in. I really figured that would do it in. Surprisingly that didn’t strip the head either.

For what you were doing there is really nothing for it to bottom out against. It makes you wonder why Kando's plug is jammed so badly, but I believe at some point he said that it may be cross threaded.

Over tightened. I always run the plug in by hand as far as I can before putting a wrench to it, so in theory there should be no way I cross threaded it.

On a different thread, some one said they didn't have a torque wrench, so they "tightened the nut down until they stripped the threads, and then backed off a quarter turn"

We're close!!!!!
This will help. I use black iron pipe and adapters for pipe wrench torque.
I store it on press, and it makes various lengths.
Two posts to go.View attachment 582272 20181208_185052.jpeg20181208_185116.jpeg
