Rounded off drain plug

You do understand the concept of tongue-in-cheek humour, don't you?

Same as my response to Big Barn. As was Big Barn's comment that I responded to.

Lighten up.

bcp - I thought the wrench with dentures part gave suggested "tongue in cheek"

I repeated the same test with my knipex and they also passed. Then I decided to do it again with a pair of vice grips which while I was standing straight down they also held. Then I got sideways a little and knocked them off. I’m pretty sure this less than perfect twisting force and instead pulling the wrench down is probably the OPs problem. IMG_0832.JPGIMG_0833.JPG

Since I’m still board how should we over tighten and strip this pipe plug? My Klein adjustable wrench seems to me holding like a champ. IMG_0834.JPGIMG_0836.JPG

Hereç—´ how hard a pipe wrench will bite. This same pipe wrench which is by no ones standard a quality tool and has buggered up teeth -------------

And you adjusted it correctly, note the gap where I put the arrows:

I think the pipe wrench jaws had actually bottomed against the head after crushing the pipe which is not optimal. They should be like this. Notice the gap which leaves room to grip tighter. IMG_0839.JPG

And it must not be my day to strip a plug. I grabbed what I thought would be a sure fire way so strip it which was a 12 point socket on a 24” breaker bar. It drove the plug all the way through the taper at which point it wasn’t getting tighter and then backed it out. IMG_0838.JPG

First thing would be to turn it over to the recommended position for tightening:

Less likley to break the adjustable jaw.

Then use a 3' long cheater pipe on it. :D

Here is my CHANNELLOCK 410 I purchased over 30 years ago which now has less than perfect teeth. (( the plier wrench, not me)

It didn’t slip with my full weight on it.

We'd better back off with the innocuous comments, if we want the 1000th post to be Kando telling us that he got the plug out. ;)
