I can see where there is a FORTUNE waiting to be made. Develop a rodent repellent that actually works. My Jeep, F-150, riding mower & tractor all are in stalls in a large carport. Out of the weather and sun - but not the rodents.
My yard looks like a war zone - pocket gophers. I've just found info about how to control this and will be applying same - this fall.
When we first moved down here from AK - my son took great pleasure in eliminating ALL the ground hogs - they have never come back.
Over the 36+ years out here the mice have only bothered the wiring on one vehicle, once. Otherwise - dog/cat food in the air cleaner canister, nests in the engine compartment, nests in out-of-the-way cavities in various vehicles.
However - currently I have had two big old wood rats ( AKA - pack rats) build massive nests in the engine compartment of my Jeep. No chewing on anything. Well, last night I finally shot/killed the female. Male trapped four days ago. These two are the only two I've had in the 36+ years out here. Hopefully - another 36+ years before I see any more.
I'm surprised at the difference between the little field mice and the big 'ol pack rats. The mice - quick, clever, everywhere(except in the house), easy to trap. The rats - big, slow, stupid, easy to whack with a shillelagh - obviously, few and far between.
The nice thing to know about "out in the country", around here - - its going to be a CONSTANT battle with the pocket gophers and mice. There is a never ending supply.
