I have an older model XR3037HC with the Shibaura engine which has 5 hr. regen cycles instead of 50 hr on the newer 3100/4100 series with LS engine. Rarely do I notice it is in a regen cycle but it always seems to be regenerating when I'm finished using it and ready to park. After 4 years I still haven't learned to check the dash before I'm done work so I can hit the regen postpone button. Seems senseless to let it run for 20-30 minutes to complete a cycle. Rather have it regen while working.
IMO good quality fuel and keeping the RPM's up help extend the time between cycles.
Most of the time I run at 2200 or higher RPM.

I'm almost to 800 hrs on my XR3037HC and don't even pay attention to the DEF cycle anymore. It comes on when it comes on and off, the same.
It happens, when it happens.
It's also a given that I do NO hay production and can't ever remember being in a situation when the cycle would've presented a fire hazard here in Florida.
You'll notice when it doesn't regen for electrical reasons, as has occurred on this machine. You'll experience a "Limp Mode" scenario. Also, there'll be an odd odor. Which is about the best I can describe, from the engine exhaust. The DEF screen is blocked and can't/won't regen for whatever reason.
It happens, when it happens.

XR3135H. Here is some regen data. I get nowhere near 50hrs but I'm probably not loading it very hard. Have a lot of PTO and ground work to do this spring, so I'll see what I get then.
The short regen time does not affect me at all. Posting here for interest.

It will be interesting to see regen times while running at PTO speeds.

I'm not hopeful. I usually operate around 2000 rpm, but my run times have not been very long lately.
However, I made her bark pretty good running a 74" snowblower this weekend. that was fun.

I think mine went off at 38 hrs. I'm at 57 hrs now and havent had a 2nd one yet.
Primarily using it for rotary cutting and clearing brush on my property. Will be leveling some dirt in the spring, too. I tend to run it at 2000-2200 RPM when working , and a bit above idle when moving without any load.
Dealer said this was good practice.

The last video had me laughing at the irony of how they fixed the man's tractor. If it were me, I'd keep it, and tell LS I'm happy with no computerized tractor.
Have to say I feel bad for that guy. I have the same tractor & hove had no issues.
In response to the much older, original question. The first regen that I noticed was at 50hrs. Since that time it has always been around the 40-45 hour mark. It helps I think how the tractor is broken in. We stored the tractor about a mile from where we used it. Starting & ending every work day with a wide open mile long run to the shed .
The last few regens have been at 233hours, 278 hours, 325hours.

My first regen on the XR4145 was exactly at 50hrs. I just did the second one at 98.6hrs. I'd say that is close enough.

Has anyone ever removed the environmental control unit from the engine and re-programmed? Is it possible?

So far, and as far as I know, the ECU has not been 'cracked' to allow users with simple free or cheap software to effectively communicate with the ECU to reprogram the emissions sensors... yet.
Removing the DPF and everything else, physically, is easy enough done. But as soon as you do, your tractor will not start. The computer (ECU) will throw errors and will require reprogramming. Your warranty (if applicable) will be voided.
I do believe some people have attempted to reprogram the ECU with varying degrees of success. Depends on make/model and year.
