Buying Advice Need Second Stihl Commercial Chainsaw, Larger Than MS261

#1......lighten up. Husky, Dolmar, and Stihl is like ford, chevy, and dodge. All good, everyone has their preferences, and there is nothing wrong with poking a little fun about the other brands.

#2. Nothing insulting if its the truth.

#3....Stihls are the most expensive of the 3, when comparing comparable models.

#4.....the only real insult that would ever involve "me" and "stihl" in the same sentence.....would be if one were to try to force "me" to run a "stihl" 290/291

When you factor price.....its pretty close to a land slide

I own Dolmars and Huskys as well as Stihls. I agree, Stihls are more expensive than they ought to be. My dad paid about $300 for his 036 when it was new. Now a 362 (same size saw) is over 700.

BUT... There's two mitigating factors. 1: The dealer network. Yes, it sucks that you can't but stihl parts online, but having dealers in **** near every town is huge if you're trying to get work done. And 2: resale value. Just like Kubota or John Deere, Stihl saws hold their value. Really really well. I can just about guarantee you that there's half a dozen well used 029 or ms290s on my local Craigslist for $300. That's almost what they cost new. I've sold 3 Stihl saws in the last couple years. I didn't lose a penny on any of them. So, yeah, more expensive to purchase, but for the most part you get it back when you sell them.

I have not been on this forum for long but this type of comment is insulting to Stihl users like myself. I would never make such a comment about a Dolmar or Husky user, they are both good brands. On a good forum good members respect each other.

Dont know current pricing, but with a little googling, it seems the 372xp and 7910 are in the ~$900 ballpark.....the MS441 is $1000, and the MS461 is ~$1100.

Similar back ~7-8 years ago when I was last shopping. The PS7900 was ~$750, the 372xp was ~$800, the MS440 was ~$900, and the MS460 was $1000
