My BH. which I call the beast is 4'. I don't use it to mow which I have. But never have had to run over 2100Rpms. even the FM. You have lower Hp. so you may have to. Here you go for the screen setup. Only takes a couple Min. to stop and clean it. and get on with the task on hand.

Awesome, thank you! "You don't use it to mow, which I have??" I'm confused haha....So you do or don't use it?/

That is literally the EXACT same bush hog I have now! It is pretty darn heavy duty! I need to get a screen bad. I do not think my new radiator from Hoye has the clips to hold it in though....

Yeah I think I may have been running a little lead-footed too. Seemed to do just fine around 2000-2100. I'll probably keep it to that from now on.

Little hard to tell with the tach jumping but it does still give me an idea. I have a good ear for the engine sound too now.

The screen just clips on. You can make do that won't be hard to do. If you look about 8" down on the R side of the Radiator in my pic. that is were the clips are. you can see the Blk. flap. Hoye I believe shows them in the 2000-1700. Eng.-Cooling. You should see the slot were they slide in on the Radiator. Had to check the 2000 on Hoye and they show the screen and the clips on the Radiator. I'd be figuring out how to make it!!
And no I don't have to use the BH. around my place that much. In Spring and Fall. But actually my 2000 is my lawn mower. I ask my self what was I thinking yrs. ago? But honestly I was young and a great way to hide from the wifey ;)

Got it, I'll have to figure something out for a screen. My radiator is def different than the one I took off. THe top and bottom piece hang way over the fins so there is not room to just slide a screen down in there. I'll think of something. I think a big part of it was that I had left side engine cover off too which I'm sure did not help to keep stuff out.

I have an after market radiator in mine. So unless its different from the one you have im not sure why you dont hve clips as mine does...i cant imagine there too many aftermarket suppliers. Plus hoye is pretty good at replicating things.

Cary when you get in stuff like he is cutting over 2000rpms is a must. Or slow way down i guess. I have mowed stuff so thick it chokes me down in 6th topped out. Just draggs you down tractor rolling coal. Really thick bahaia or knee deep bermuda is the worst.

What gear do ya'll bush hog in? I was in 2nd low which seemed kinda slow lol.

Then tried 3rd low and ended up going to 1st in high range. Seems like anything faster than that would bounce you all over the **** place.

I think a bouncing tach is caused by friction in the cable or tach head. You can loosen the cable at one end (I forget which end), take out the core, inspect it, and grease it before re-assembly.

I went one step farther on the prior YM186D. It's tach was screechy when it hadn't run for a few days. I took out the tach, turned it face down, and poured in a few drops of 'lock fluid' (graphite in solvent) around the edge of the socket that the cable turns. Then let it sit overnight for the solvent to dry. That solved the problem, the tach was then steady and silent like new.

Can you go into a little more detail on this? How's the tach/cable work? What exactly needs to be freed up or sealed?
