Going in the AM to put a food plot in! Gonna keep it at 2k! Wish me luck! Still ordering water pump though!

Just noticed something else. Bolts on back of motor are touching fuel tank and melting into it. Great! Ever seen this before? Looks like it's been this way for a while. Not leaking, but I doubt that should be touching. I'm assuming normal operation temp wouldn't melt that so probably happened before I figured all this other stuff out.

Aaaaaaaand lastly, I'll get a small drip of oil hanging from the bell housing here and there near the weep hole. Have yet to see one in the ground so it can't be that bad. Noticed this right away figured it was pretty common for an old tractor. Anything to worry about getting worse quickly? Hoping to at least fix all these small issues and then use the thing for a few years before really taking apart lol!

Bell housing leak is not a big deal. If it's engine oil it's probably just like a car and the rear main, or if it's hydro fluid it would be the seal on the shaft going into the gear box. Either way that few drips I would not touch.

Can you loosen the straps on the tank and slide it back away any? Or loosen them and get some sort of shim to protect the tank...like get an old tire inner tube and double or triple it up, unless you have a heavy equipment inner tube or heavy duty rubber roof material and a single layer would be fine. I would loosen the straps and put those in between the bolts to protect.

And lastly what's the engine tag say rated HP is at? I think that thing operating RPM is 2200 rpm probably, if it needs rpms to cool run it all the way up to operating rpms.

Good idea on the inner tube for the tank.

Question, if I do the water pump and I still do end up having a bad head-gasket but not knowing. What will be the tell tale signs then? Will it still overheat? Will I hurt anything as long as I keep an eye on the gauge? It seems to smoke/steam lightly. I mean very lightly. Like you can just see it at the tip of the exhaust. Only really "smokes" when you pop the throttle or a sudden load is on it. Could that be coolant and thus a bad head gasket? I have read on this and most people say if it's that light it's fine. I just want to make sure I get this right this time and don't have to take it all apart again. Should I just do the head gasket the same time I do the pump to be sure? Doesn't seem like too big of a job.

Or should I just try the water pump first? It's already on its way!

By "smoke" I mean a VERY light haze just to be accurate. Could that just be from "sludge" in the exhaust?

Just learned something else. I can face it UPHILL at lower RPM doesn't overheat. Downhill, overheats. I think the thermosyphin system is very finicky and again pointing to a water pump needed.

What I mean is, gravity definitely has an effect on how it works. Just faces it uphill at 1500 RPM could not get over 175 degrees. Downhill, 2000 RPM 190-200. Sorry for the multiple posts, keep updating this as I mess with it. Phone will not let me edit posts. Anyway, final plan - take it apart and add pump. I'll go from there. I have a feeling that should do it. But again, just in case head gasket is bad - will I not hurt anything if I keep an eye on my temps while operating just in case it is?

It use to not let me edit from my phone, every time I tried it deleted the post. Now it let's me edit them for some reason?

To answer your questions. Me...I would do the waterpump regardless. Then if the Head is bad do that gasket.

To answer what problems or symptoms you could have running it if the head gasket was bad and you ran with waterpump. It would mask the syptoms longer as it will cool more efficient. But it will eventually get worse and still over heat. Sometimes the leak is slight and not as obvious. Bit you will eventually overheat. Not a big deal if you atop it before it gets too hot too long. But if you run it hot too long it will warp or crack the head and you will be buying another.

Going up and down hill is strange to me but clearly your noticing a trend.

Let's just take this one thing at time....I have a lingering feeling this thing has a bad head gasket. But if this were me I would do the waterpump first and other work later as needed
