Gas flux core wire

Now as to the question: I have flux core wire for my non-gas welders in 2 and 10# rolls and non flux core wire in the same sizes for my gas MIG. I'm curious as to why you use (or think you need) the additional cleansing of the joint by using flux with gas?

I'm confused, as MJO63 doesn't indicate that they have a gas welder (unless they've edited their question.) EDIT: Read the darned title, dummy!
Our local Lowes sells both flux core and solid wire in several sizes. I also note that my "convertible" welder (gas/solid or no gas / flux core) reverses polarity between the two processes. I've not tried flux core with argon-yet. Now I sort of want to.

If I ever master both regular processes,I'll give gas shielded flux core a try. They sell wire just for the process. I spected it's only required for very specialized occasions.

Personally, I like to use argon (straight up, as I also use the same bottle for aluminum TIG work) with solid wire, but I sometimes use flux-core to save moving the bottle from cart to cart. I cannot imagine any work that I do that would require flux and shielding gas.

I would like duel shield better then intershield I also have a bottle of 75/25

Dual shield is great when working in doors. Or if you can set up wind breaks when working outside. If you have to work outside, without wind breaks gasless flux core works better.

If I am understanding original posters question , He is looking for a 4 lb. roll . I can't find any of my sources who sell 4 lb. rolls . 2 lb. , 8 lb. , 10 lb. , and even bigger . :confused3:

Well you know what they say about having what you want when you want it. There's just no way 2Lb or 8Lb rolls will ever work if one has their heart set on 4 Lb rolls. I've got an idea. How bout I buy an 8 Lb roll,remove half of it then sell it to op for twice what I paid for 8 Lbs?:hyper:

The smallest lincoln list for all the dual shield I looked at (71M is what I use) is 10lb spools, since it's mainly used for heavier fabrication and depositing a lot of material quickly i guess they figure anything smaller wouldn't be too desirable.

Is there an application where you need the smaller spool for the welder or are you just looking for a smaller amount for small job or test run?

I don't think it would transfer well to a smaller spool for the lincoln wire if that's what you need (too stiff), some other brands are softer (national brand was real soft but junk, gave away a mostly full spool)

Alloy Rods, ( ESAB now ) had a 10# Dual Shield 7100 ultra at one time. I never knew anyone else to offer it on that small of a spool. Plus it went down to 035. The schools used it to test the student welders. I also thought I saw a Hobart 71T-1 wire in a 10#. Anything smaller than 10# is likely not out there. Let us know if you do find one.

It's a different flux core wire used with gas shielded flux core as opposed to regular flux core and reverse polarity. I had my supplier get me a 10# spool of Lincoln Outershield 71M. I love it.

Google gas shielded flux core and learn it's advantages. Pay particular to Jody at "weldingtipsandtricks".

Your welder will take 4 or 8" spools. 8" spool holds 10#
