Manual tire changer help

This is a pretty good demonstration at the 12 minute mark. I also have the HF version and I usually clamp vise grips with a cardboard cushion on the rim to prevent the tire bead from pulling up as I go around.

I did many tires while working at Sears Automotive center during college.. we had the fancy machines, but the boss explained to the new guys all the time, that just means you can mess up a custom rim very fast without any effort. We hated the fancy rims, there was risk of problems at every turn...

Never had a bar with the wheels, but my guess would be the wheels ride the rim, not the tire bead;




No- the hook slides on the outside of the rims lip
The wheel rolls on the tires inner bead as the bar is pulled against the tire machines center post .

When working correctly the bead slips over the rim behind the wheel as the bar is moved around the wheel


If I get a chance I will take a few pictures of my changer with the bar putting a bead on.

Page 3 of the 510 manual shows the mounting procedure using the bar in question (although the manual itself is upside down) that should clear up some things

Thanks for the link. Even though it's upside down, I can see the procedure for mounting. They actually have the tire bead inbetween the hook and the wheel on the bar. I will have to try that. Thanks!

Sorry it took so long some pictures of the manual machine and bar in use: bottom bead being put on



Now the easier to see top bead




hope this clears up how the bar and roller get the bead on the wheel

Hey what ever works for you, The old coats machine and it's bar get it done for me .

Get a high lift jack - from TSC to break bead - some tire irons and a cheetah to set beed when airing up - I thinks its faster that the manual tire things -
