I already have a hydraulic top link. I think I can take about 8" long piece of square tubing, drill holes in one end got the top link pin on the rake. Then cut out about 3" of top and bottom sides of tube to end up with two ears on sides with hole for pin on the top link cylinder.

It isn't a hydraulic top link. It's a top link that uses both pneumatic and hydraulic pressure to give you a self-adjusting link that can float or be rigid like a screw top top-link.

I understand what the Hydraulink is, I just don't need to spend $130 when I can get similar result with $2 worth of Sq. tubing and a little machining labor.

Yep, just need to find a short piece of 2 1/2", 1/4" wall sq. tube.
