Brush mower versus flail mower

Hi guys, any thoughts on the super duty brush mower versus the flail mower? I'm looking at a BCS 852/853 diesel for mowing CRP, trails, brush, etc. on my property in Northeast Missouri. I like that the flail reduces material to a nice consistent size without windrowing it, but like that the brush mower can handle larger material and seems to have a larger front area, so it would seem to be easier to get brush into it.

Looks like the "big tractor" guys are strongly in favor of flails; I wonder if the same thing holds for 2-wheeled tractors? My dad used to say that they'd get wrapped up with grass and weeds... I'm not sure if that's myth or reality.

Wrapping is caused by too fast mowing and mowing too high wherein the flail is unable to create
the pressure gradient to carry the clippings over the flail mower rotor.

A flail mower will handle your acreage as long as you run it properly and maintain it.

AND its a much safer mower to use for all conditions. if you have heavy saplings
you need a chain saw for them anyway.


OH you will not be able to recut any clippings with a rotary mower BTW, this is where a
flail mower really shines for the user.
