Fluid Film is great stuff and I use it all the time, but it does smell a little funky to me. The little balls inside the female PTO coupler on my Woods RFM didn't want to retract when I pulled back on the collar, which made attaching the PTO to the tractor an exercise in frustration. A couple of applications of Fluid Film on the balls, and rolling them around to make sure they were completed lubricated, did the trick.

So, the end result is that I used Fluid Film on my balls and now they work great but smell funky. :D

I'm seriously considering making the last line my signature line....LOL!

DON'T use Grease on the PTO connection?

Learning something new every day.

I'm very thankful for this forum.

Off to google "fluid film".

You can now buy Fluid Film at Lowes if you have one nearby.

You can make your own version of Fluid Film with some pure, unscented liquid lanolin, a spray bottle and 99% isopropyl alcohol.

A solution of 1 part liquid lanolin and 4 to 5 parts parts 99% isopropyl alcohol (4 oz of liquid lanolin to16 - 20 oz of isopropyl) works well. When mixing you may find that the lanolin mixes better if you warm both the alcohol and lanolin in a bath of warm water to about 105 - 110 degrees F before mixing. DO NOT WARM EITHER OF THEM OVER AN OPEN FLAME! Once the solutions are warm, pour together, mix thoroughly, allow the mix to cool (mix occasionally as it cools) and store in an air tight container to prevent water from being absorbed by the isopropyl.

$10/can at Lowes.

Good info, I'd always greased my PTO shafts but as others noted they kind of gunk up and get hard to move.

What dept would it be in? I took a quick look around our store and didn't see it.

It was located near the tool department in my local Lowes, on shelves also containing PB Blaster, WD 40, etc.
