A backup camera for $50!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, Can someone tell me the correct name for the male plug I need to fit the socket pictured below? The socket is in my NH T4.75 within 2 feet of where I want to mount my backup camera in the rear window. The tractor manual just calls it a "single-pole electrical connector 8A". It is smaller than a cigarette lighter socket and measures 1/2" diameter. When I place my electrical meter positive lead to the center bottom and negative lead to ground I get 12V with the ignition key off. I have typed "single-pole electrical connector 8A" into Google and get nothing that looks similar and I need to find a male part that fits this socket. Thanks....

Why don't you simply cut it away and install something that you can get as a pair.
Since it as always hot a fuse or breaker should be included.

Whatever connector it is it will be pricier than the replacement pair.
On the other hand from the pic It almost looks like the type used to push onto the stud of a cigar lighter.

Could always contact your dealer and see if they have a pig tail. If they do and it's reasonable ok, but the idea of removing it and installing a standard 12 volt outlet.

I will install something else if necessary. I am just wondering what I am missing here as to the name. I find it hard to believe NH is installing these plugs on some of their cabbed tractors if they are not common parts. If I don't get any replies by tomorrow I'll phone the dealership. Near the seat I have a cigarette lighter, the receptacle mentioned above, a 4 prong receptacle, a six prong receptacle and on the back a 7 pin receptacle for trailer brakes and lights. There are plenty of electrical receptacles near the rear window and the one I am trying to find a name for would be the most convenient for me to use.

What is the inner diameter of the metal sleeve? If its 5.5mm, a standard 12v power plug (like for a router or a security camera) probably fits into it.

Inner diameter appears to be 1/2" as far as I can tell....

For anyone looking for magnets check out the dump, landfill or whatever for old stereo speakers. Just remove the magnet from the speaker. The bigger the speaker, the bigger the magnet.

I had not thought of that. I ordered 2 of these magnets today. They are 1 3/4" diameter and have a pull force of 125 lbs. They claim to have 10x the pull force of the older ceramic magnets. They should hold my camera in place. They are a bit expensive at $13.52 each, but are the size I think I need, and have the 1/4" threaded stud built in already.

Ah, now that you mention that, someone ran into one of those on here a while back. It appears to be a ISO 4165 socket. Also known as a DIN Hella, Powerlet or a BMW/Euro-Style plug. Common on European motorcycles where there isnt space for a full on cigarette lighter socket.

My camera system should be here today according to FedEx tracking. I hope to get it all installed tomorrow. I have 4 truckloads of sod to roll out next week and I think the front camera will be handy for this job.

The kit came in today. This is what was in the box. The installation instructions consisted of a list of what is in the box.



My most difficult task was finding a place to get power. There is a plug available under the dash, but I already have 2 other items running off that plug. I ended up skinning a wire and putting a 1 amp fuse to get power.


I drilled a few holes in an edger blade to mount the rear camera. It seems to have worked out well.



My magnets did not come in yet for mounting the front camera.

Here is a short video of some of the options on the monitor. This is with only the rear camera hooked up.

I decided to install my set up this morning and opted to use the " wireless" accessories I bought rather than try to run cables inside the walls of the tractor. Have everything working and most of the wires and sender/ receivers hidden inside the pillar wall behind a panel but the exposed sender near the camera has me a bit concerned. Why are places on the wire warm to the touch? Don't mind it on the exposed wires near the camera as I can unplug when not in use by way of cigarette lighter socket but what about he receiver and wires inside the window pillar? Is this heat normal?

Heat would suggest the wiring is too light of a gauge. It might still be within the specs of the insulation, but hard to say. I'd rather not have warm wires!

This is the gauge wire that came with the camera and blue tooth sender and receiver and the wires are permanently attached so there is not much a individual can do. I do have the end that sends from the camera wired to plug into a cigarette lighter so I can unplug when not in use and the receiver is only powered up when the ignition key is turned on so it's the best I can do with my limited knowledge of wiring.

Good thread. If I had a cab, adding some cameras and a monitor would be a must. I installed a system in my Surbaru Crosstrek, and I have to say I am more than pleased with it, and best of all, other than my time spent carefully wiring it, it cost under $38. Careful shopping on eBay can produce wonders. The first monitor never showed up, the second they said they shipped also never showed up, so I just spent $2 more and ordered what seemed to be the same thing from California- it showed up. The original seller refunded my purchase price, so all is good.
I would worry about cameras installed just behind a loader, since sooner or later, I would hit it with something. Hard drive magnets are amazing, and free it you find someone junking a drive.

Let us know how your wireless setup works out. If the wires are warm they are probably too light of a gauge.

I thought I would update that my camera and monitor are still going strong. They are on anytime the key is on. The camera comes in handy when I am on the road. I can look down and see if there is traffic behind me. One day this week I was in tight area in the woods between a bunch of trees. The camera made it easier to navigate through them. It has been very handy when I am loading the truck, I can just look down and back up. In some cases I can see my implements good enough while I am working them that I don't have to turn around to watch them.
