Oh, so sorry. I forget at times what audience I'm talking with. A diamond powder bag to just rub on the cylinder wall would do the trick. Just that larger companies have this in the shop area.

BTW, what engine model number is this?

Not sure just what this comment means. I guess I am of the no knowlege audience on this subject. It is a first to me to hear of polishing cylinder walls with a diamond powder bag. I have always thought cross hatching with a ball hone or cylinders de glazing hone was the correct finish. Did a little googling on diamond powder bag but didn't come up with much. I am open to learn.

I'm in the same boat. I use to build my own race engines. I never used or heard of using a diamond powder bag

That was a little over my head to. I got a some more done on the tractor today. Checked the brake seal collars out and one was bad but the other one would most likely be usable. If it don't clean up nice I'll replace it also. 002.jpg003.jpg003.jpg004.jpg

I have not heard of this either, and I have rebuilt many engines, including three 3-cyl Yanmars.

I have not had to press-fit any crank bearings, either. Anything special required there? I know the
bearings are soft....do they use anything other than a conventional hyd press? Special die or
tool, maybe?

Yanmar does have specail tools for removing and installing the one piece main bearings. Here are examples from a 220/226 repair manual.

Interesting. It seems that a hydraulic press would work fine.

I got back to the tractor today. Three new exhaust valves and the head is back on. Adjusted the valve by the manual and everything looked good till I turned to no.2 cyl. When I set those valves I got looking at the no.3 cyl and it appeared the rocker arm was looser than it should be so I put the feeler gauge on it and it was about .010 when I had just set it on .006. Maybe I was just tired so I thought I would call it a day and think about it. Two of the valve seals I bought from Hoye were bad. One had no little spring on it and the other one the spring broke as I put it on the valve so rather waiting another weel I used two of the old ones.004.jpg005.jpg006.jpg007.jpg

I wonder if you could buy the same size seals locally?

Most likely could but I already put the head on. The old seals looked good. Going to have to recheck the valve lash tomorrow when I have a clear mind.

It's amazing how much better things go with a clear mind. Rechecked the valves today and everthing checked out good. Put all fluids in with fresh fuel. After bleeding the fuel system the engine cranked and ran like a new one. I expected it to smoke up my shop but to my surprise It didn't smoke any. I spun the engine with the fuel shut off and the compression release on. The oil light went off after three or four revolutions. Thanks for all the Ideas and opinions. Now all I need is some warmer weather to check out the rest of the tractor. I'll keep everybody informed.

Glad to hear you got her going again ! Did you have any problems getting the fuel pump back in time ? Did you have the pump checked while you had it off ?

No to both. Just reinstalled as it came off. After bleedibg at the filter, the pump, and the injectors the tractor turned over about two revolutins and was running. I have the tractor on jack stands with the wheels off so I tried the lift and the powershift and they both worked as they should.
