Went to shop this morning, Piston have moved under the hydraulic jack pressure. Made a couple of more strokes on the jack and it moved some more. Took wire wheel on drill and cleaned up the bore to remove all rust scale. Turned block over and put jack on rod end of piston and it pressed right out. rings stuck on piston, but I dont think they will be a big problem. Cylinder has sever pitting. Hone job wont do. Took to machine shop, he's going to check out the block to make sure no cracks, then measure all bores. If rest of bores are good enough for standard rings, then just going to sleeve bad cylinder. If other bores check out to have to much wear, going to bore and install oversize pistons. Will deck head and do a valve job, install new cam bearings. When it comes back home it will be ready for re-assembly. Said it would be next year before I got it back. LOL.

Mean time, going to order some gyptal insulating paint for generator parts. Also will be doing some body work on hood and frame. Might as well do a paint job while its apart. Got to do a little cleanup on carb and magneto and govenor to make sure they function properly. Should have it up and running in a few weeks.

Won't be long until your shop looks like this.

I could only dream! My shop is so cluttered up, I am ashamed to even post pic's.
You would think that as much trouble as i have had just getting this thing unstuck and torn down, I wouldnt even want to look at another one. Problem is, as I am driving around, I keep looking at all the scrap heaps just to see if I can spot another one. I am now torn between a rebuild or a restoration. It looks like I will probably be into this one for around $1000 or so, plus labor. If i do a complete restore cost could go up quite a bit.

They aren't making any more SA 200s so expect the current quantity of cheap ones to shrink steadily. I'd take any I could get near scrap price and shove them in the back yard if nothing else. You can always part out what you don't use for a profit.

Is there really that big of a demand for good running sa200's. I see plenty of running machines for sale on Ebay. Some with big prices, some seem reasonable. Dont know if any of those machines are selling. I would think because of the limitations of a sA200, (DC only) that there would be much more demand for a newer, more modern machine with AC as well as DC.

They still make them. The diesel engine makes sense on a machine that's intended to accumulate lots of hours.

$17500 for a new one. I may have more to work with than I thought.

on another note, BIL brought down some old tools his FIL had. They seem to have the same plug end as the 110vdc outlet on the welder. I dont know if any of them will work, but he threw them in the back of my truck before he left. These old tools are all metal housings, no plastic.

Just wait till you weld with it the arc is wonderful. Do the tools have the tags on them? They will usually show a symbol for ac/dc on them, for the most part it will be on single speed tools such as a grinder.

I missed this earlier. Nice thread! I see you are a lot like me - you see a challenge more than an opportunity to make big money with something like this. I like it! Good luck moving this forward

I will have to look for the tag, I havent even taken the tools out of the truck yet.
I am hoping to get my engine block back Friday. I have been waiting for the block before ordering any parts. Right now I am trying to locate a decent bodyshop to pretty up the cover for the welder. Havent made up my mine if I want to go with the factory gray, or the newer charcoal color.
