Quick hitch vs pat's hitch

/ Quick hitch vs pat's hitch #61
I'm with JRP. I bent a Northern Tool CAT I QH using it on a B2910. Bent it using a box blade. Bent the lower brackets to the side. Only reason it didn't destroy it was the top link started taking some of the lateral pressure.

A lot of users on here buy Harbor Freight or any other cheap brand they can find and get along fine.

A very good indicator of what you are buying is the shipping weight. Light is cheap. Light is weak. They go hand in hand.

Do you have any pictures of the bent QH? I though you said you bent I before, I assumed it was on your L4400. Their is not much difference in the weight of my HF QH and my imatch. The imatch is constructed way better.

I'll try to get some pics. It bent the vertical flat plates that the lower links are fastened to. The Northern Tool hitch is not completely boxed in at that area. So the lateral pressure is held by flat bar, not a very good idea. On my CAT II hitch that area is all boxed in and solidly welded. Relieves that stress from the flat bar.

We have the Cat 1 Delta Hook on our Kubota B-2710 HST and the TSC (SpeeCo or SpeeCo copy) Cat 2 on our NH TL100-A so, have good experience with both types. The Delta Hook is far faster to hookup implement especially if you don't have to connect a PTO shaft. The Delta Hooks are expensive though.

I haven't had any problems with the HF unit other than having to extend the top hook but I knew that first, I just don't want to not fix a problem that may be avoidable!

That is amazing that small of a tractor could bend it.

The HF QH weighs all of a massive #61, while the Pat's "Easy Change" goes a svelte #20, so it's hardly a big deal. Besides, don't you need rear ballast to provide counter weight to vs. your FEL anyway?

The problem with all of these big ones is they weigh too much. My little BX25 has a lift capacity of only 670 lbs., and I don't want to reduce that further by adding a heavy QH system, so Pat's seems the best for me.

Sorry this took so long, computer trouble.

Here's a couple pics of my Northern Tool CAT I QH. Notice how light the upright is built where the latch pin hinges. Allows for lateral bending which is what happened to me. I didn't realize I had bent it until I switched attachments and noticed the top link wasn't centered anymore. Removed the hitch and took a maul to it for repairs.

On the other hand, look at how this QH is designed in that area. Yeah, I know it's a CAT II, but regardless, look how much stronger it's designed. Not sure of the brand of this one, it's an old CAT II.

I chose to go with Pat's because a quick hitch is not compatible with my rotary cutter or finish mower. The rigid quick hitch would not allow the flexible top links to work as designed. I have also found that the top link is not the problem when hooking up. I've had to wrestle with the lower links many times though. The quick hitch is faster IF every thing lines up. I've found that the Pat's system takes care of the hard part while remaining flexible.

I'm surprised I don't see this mentioned more often.
Quick hitch's won't let the mowers float properly on uneven ground.

Depends on where in the system they get the flexibility.

For example, here is a quick hitch compatible mower:

Thanks for posting the pictures. Your Northern tool quick hitch looks like my harbor freight QH. My Imatch looks similar to your cat 2 QH.

Landpride make a floating toplink adapter for their quick hitch. It would not be hard to make one.

So a quick hitch will help me hook up a boxblade or backblade.
But for my finish mower, brush mower I would still need to hook up that top link bracket adapter and install the PTO shaft.
For my post hole digger and backhoe the quick hitch would need to be removed entirely before hookup.
Wheres the gain of the quick hitch.

To hook up your Box blade and Back blade. The adapter stays on your quick hitch.

May not be any gain for you. Tremendous gain for me. I added my QH and have never taken it off. Changing 3pt attachments is never dreaded. Some days I may change 3 or 4 times. No frustration. I can hookup to my 1200lb box blade in a matter of seconds and not even get my hands dirty. In a matter of 3 or 4 minutes I can drop the box blade and hookup to my 1500lb cutter. Again with no frustration or dread.

Again, not to take away from Pat's. Great addition to a tractor.

I keep all my Implements on dolly's and the use of the Quick hitch and 3 point rear lever is the best there is.

I was against the idea of a QH. I did not like messing with the turn buckles on the BX so I got one. I liked it so much I got one for the 4240.

Between my Brother and I we use four tractors. They all have a QH on them.

Good catch on the different length top link for a Pat's system Roger. I forgot to mention that.
