Quick hitch other than Harbor Freight?

/ Quick hitch other than Harbor Freight? #61
I have Speeco Quick Hitches on both of my tractors with one in use for 10 years now. I have modified the handles to point to the front of the tractor so I can just turnaround in the seat and open or close the latches. In cases where I don't have a PTO shaft I can attach or drop an implement with out getting off the tractor.

The only difference I see between this speedco QH and the HF QH is the top link hook is longer. Now I have the HF QH but I haven't used it yet because I need to extend that same hook and well it's now winter yet. I am sure some will chime in with many other differences but from the look I just don't see them. I did compare the TSC QH when I got mine and other than color, some fancy decals and adaptors I really didn't see much of a difference there either. I will work on this as the snow flies the idea is a great idea and I would really like it to work, I will have to adapt my implements also because some of them are 30 + years old and just will not fit but if it is easier I am all for it I am not getting any younger. You think after 30+ years of hooking up implements I would just do it, but what kind of fun would that be. The adjustable lower arms would probably be just as good for me and I wouldn't have to adapt anything but man they are expensive!

Thanks for all the info. Ended up ordering one from Northern Tool. They are within a couple buck of the HF ones & I was already getting some other stuff shipped from Northern anyway.

I hope you ordered some bushings.

I have one set of bushings on my tiller, everything else I just let it slop around one the cat 1 pins. Haven't had a problem yet. YMMV.

That's a lot of slop from cat 1 to cat 3

I use bushings on everything.

I use some of these

I use mostly these, they are less money at the dealer than TSC.

2 things that were not discussed in this thread are a advantage for Pats is it does not require bushings. A advantage for a quick hitch is it weighs 60-70lbs for a cat 1 model so it adds weight to the implement which is good for something like grading and it contributes to your ballast.

I got to look over a Speeco QH today. All the material "appeared" to be slightly heaver than my HF QH, like HF used the closest metric size that was smaller. It would be interesting to see the actual weights on both.

Also looked at a Priefert QH. That would be a really nice one if you used both Cat. 1 and Cat. 2 implements.

Wouldn't it be more advantageous to just change the lower pins with reduced thread class 2 pins, I think I saw them at TSC.

I cannot be sure about all QH's but, on most I think the lower arm hooks are CAT 3 so, on a CAT 1 QH your are bushing from CAT 1 to CAT 3 and on a CAT 2 QH you are bushing from CAT 2 to CAT 3.

the one piece adaptors get you there without doubleing up and they have a stop collar built into them. using bushings 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 with a lock pin will also get you there. Price wise changing the pins is counter productive your better off getting the adaptors.
On a related topic why in the h@@L does a cat one quick hitch come with oversized hooks in the first place.

I am not certain that one piece bushings are necessary on all implements. I know they aren't on implements with a clevis style hook up. I keep all my QH compatible implements with bushings on them.

It makes no sense to me why a Cat1 QH uses CAT 3 hooks. Maybe the original inventor wanted to sell bushings with every QH. Someone should make a weld in reducer for the QH hooks to make them CAT 1.

And mass produce them and sell here on tbn!

I have Cat 1 & Cat 2 lower pins, all with the same thread size for mounting, so maybe my implements don't know or care whether they will be used with a Cat 1 or Cat 2 3PH.

Am I so wrong to think that QHs are designed for ease of use rather than to save us buying extra parts to make 'one size fit all'? (I thought that was for spandex apparel. You learn something every day, eh?)

These "bushing sets"...

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200479426_200479426

...assuming it includes two bushings and two pins -- but assuming these things always gets me into trouble. Doesn't exactly say what is included. do I need to buy one or two for each implement?

Also, who is the best supplier for top link adapter for non-quick hitch compatible implements?

I think you could back in with the toplink shortend and latch the lift arms and extend the top link then put the toplink pin in.
