It does look nice. Are those speaker grills paintable, or are they cloth? I was thinking it might be nice if they blended in with the walls a bit more, but you audiophile types would probably call that blasphemy.

Technically they are paintable because the grills are aluminum or steel and the rest is plastic. However, you cannot just use latex house paint because it is so viscous that it would clog the holes in the grills. Instead, Peter would have to get custom mixed automotive paint to match it and then shoot them with compressed air paint gun. They would likely look very good for a while, but at some point, the fact that they are 2 different types of paint would catch up with him. They decay and discolor at different rates. My advice is to leave them as they are.
Quick funny story. Back when I was into competitve car audio, a good friend actually had his entire dash painted just so the dash would match the custom grills I made. That actually worked but was expensive. The reason it worked is that they just add something called a vinyl additive to the auto paint to paint the dash. That would work in this case, too, but I doubt Peter wants to repaint such a large area now that dear old Mom is in the house.

I seriously doubt you will see any pictures of Peter or his mother going forward. However, if you look closely at his recent post, you will see his mother in one of the pics. Now that I have said that, he may even go in and crop the photo. I do not blame him one bit. I like my work to speak for me and have never posted a picture of myself or family.

I looked hard, but can't find her pic, Stu. Maybe Peter beat me to it. I'll just have to imagine her as a refined Danish beauty, blond hair sprinkled with silver, blazing sky blue eyes, skin that looks far too young for her age. Yup, that's Mom. ;-)

Peter, I think the house is looking great, especially from the back side. The front looks very nice, but the back side looks WOW! I just wonder how the stone guy makes a living? He has surely 'dinked around' with this job for a long time. Maybe the result will be worth all the wait. I'm anxious to see the outside fireplace completed. Every time I see that big open basement, I sure get jealous. Like you, your mom must be very tired, but very pleased to have such a beautiful home so close to you. Maybe when the rains stop, she can get started outside some. I would wager a bet that she will spend lots of outside time in the future.

And for the record, I can do electrical wiring because I understand it as an EE. However, I admire true electricians that can drill down through a top plate and further down through a fire block and fish a wire or 2 without damaging the drywall. I have no idea how they do that. I recently had to do that for my closet/safe room project so I bought a 65" long flex bit and tried to use it. The first attempt was a stellar failure because I was so far away from what I was drilling. I then cut the bit down to a manageable 36" and drilled through from the other side. That almost worked perfectly, but I had 4 studs stacked together (7" thick) to drill through so the bit ended up coming out of the drywall on the opposite side of the wall in my hallway just as I passed through the last stud. Dunno how they do it, but the truly good electricians do it with ease.
